## Description

TearSnow IndexNow submits a post or page URL to your selected IndexNow endpoint
whenever the item is saved with the published status.

Features:

 * Automatically submit newly published posts and pages, including scheduled items
   when they are published.
 * Submit updates to posts and pages that remain published.
 * Choose Bing, IndexNow, Amazon, Naver, Seznam.cz, Yandex, or Yep in Settings >
   General.
 * Use Bing by default until another endpoint is saved.
 * Automatically derive an IndexNow key from the site hostname and serve a virtual
   verification text file.
 * Skip revisions, autosaves, unpublished items, and post types other than posts
   and pages.
 * Open the endpoint setting using the Settings link on the Plugins screen.

This plugin does not submit existing content in bulk, submit deletion notifications,
retry failed submissions, or display submission results. Submissions run during
the save request, with a request timeout of 10 seconds.

The plugin is developed by TearSnow and is not an official plugin of IndexNow or
any participating search engine.

#### External services

This plugin uses external IndexNow services to notify participating search engines
about published URLs. Activating the plugin enables automatic submissions to Bing
by default. Administrators can change the receiving endpoint in Settings > General.
Deactivating the plugin stops its submissions.

When a post or page is saved with the published status, the plugin sends an HTTPS
POST request containing:

 * The hostname of the submitted URL (host).
 * The site’s IndexNow verification key (key).
 * The public address of the verification file (keyLocation).
 * The permalink of the saved post or page (urlList).

The payload does not include the post body, author details, passwords, or visitor
information. The receiving service can observe the server’s public IP address and
standard HTTP request metadata. Published password-protected posts and pages are
also submitted; their passwords are not sent.

The selected service may retrieve the verification file and crawl the submitted
URL. According to the IndexNow documentation, submissions are shared with other
participating search engines; choosing an endpoint does not restrict submission
data to that provider.

Available endpoints:

 * Bing: https://www.bing.com/indexnow
 * IndexNow: https://api.indexnow.org/indexnow

## Installation

 1. Upload the tearsnow-indexnow folder containing the plugin PHP file and this readme.
    txt file to /wp-content/plugins/.
 2. Activate TearSnow IndexNow through the Plugins screen in WordPress.
 3. Open Settings > General, select an IndexNow endpoint, and click Save Changes. Bing
    is used by default.
 4. Publish or update a post or page to trigger a submission.

The verification URL must be publicly accessible. The current implementation expects
WordPress’s home URL to be at the domain root. A server rule that blocks TXT requests
or prevents them from reaching WordPress can prevent verification.

## FAQ

### Where do I configure the plugin?

Open Settings > General and select an endpoint in the IndexNow dropdown. You can
also use the plugin’s Settings link on the Plugins screen.

### Do I need to create an API key or upload a text file?

No. The plugin derives a 32-character key by applying MD5 to the hostname from home_url().
It serves the key through a virtual /{key}.txt URL without writing a physical file.

### Do I need to submit to every endpoint?

No. The plugin sends one request to the selected endpoint for each qualifying save.
IndexNow participants share submissions with one another.

### Does this guarantee indexing?

No. IndexNow notifies search engines of a URL change. Each search engine decides
whether and when to crawl or index the URL.

### Are drafts, private posts, or custom post types submitted?

No. Only posts and pages with the publish status are submitted. Password protection
does not change that status, so published password-protected items are submitted
too.

### Does the plugin submit older content or deleted URLs?

No. Activation does not submit existing content. Existing posts and pages are submitted
when they are subsequently saved with the published status. Deleted URLs are not
submitted.

### Does the plugin provide submission logs or retries?

No. The plugin does not process the response into a status display, keep submission
logs, or retry failed requests.
