Place a pulsing dot anywhere on the photo, tag it with a product – name, price, image, and a buy link – and visitors tap the dot to see the product and click through, right where their attention already is. Every product is entered by hand. There are no Amazon API keys to configure, no rate limits to worry about, and no outbound requests of any kind – ShopSpot never phones home to Amazon or anyone else. #### Not just for Amazon Every product has a **Vendor**: Amazon, another affiliate program, or your own site. The buy button’s label, the link’s `rel` attributes, and the disclosure text shown beneath the image all follow the vendor automatically – so a hotspot pointing at your own product page behaves correctly too, not only Amazon links. #### Built for reuse Products live as their own reusable entries on a dedicated Products screen. Feature the same headphones in five different posts and you create the product once, then just pick it from a list everywhere else – update the price or the link in one place and every post tagging it stays current. #### Key features * Click-to-place hotspots on any post’s featured image, with drag-to-reposition and one-click reassignment to a different product * Reusable Product entries – name, image, price, ASIN, and buy link – taggable on any number of posts * Three Vendor types (Amazon, Other Affiliate, My Own Site) that automatically drive button text, link attributes, and disclosure wording * Three Product Types (Physical, Digital, Service), each with its own relevant fields (Platform, Duration) * Retire a product by switching it to Draft – it disappears from every post it’s tagged on immediately, without deleting it or breaking existing hotspots * Duplicate-product detection while creating a new product, so the same item doesn’t end up created twice by accident * A Settings screen for Country, Currency (shown as the Price field’s symbol), and the Amazon disclosure message, including a toggle to hide it and a field to customize its wording * Warns before leaving a post with unsaved hotspot changes * No external requests, no tracking, no bundled analytics ### Copyright ShopSpot is distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL. Upload the `shopspot` folder to `/wp-content/plugins/`, or install it through the Plugins screen in your WordPress admin. 2. Activate the plugin. 3. Go to Products > Settings and set your Country and Currency. 4. Add a product or two under Products > Add New Product. 5. Edit any post with a Featured Image set – a “Product Hotspots” box appears below the content editor. Click the image to place a hotspot and assign a product. ## FAQ ### Does this need an Amazon API key or Product Advertising API access? No. Everything – name, price, image, link – is entered by hand. ShopSpot makes no outbound requests to Amazon or anyone else. ### Can I use this for non-Amazon affiliate links, or my own products? Yes. Every product has a Vendor field: Amazon, Other Affiliate, or My Own Site. Button text, link attributes, and the disclosure message all adjust automatically based on which one you pick. ### Will this slow down my site? The hotspot script and stylesheet only load on a singular post that actually has a hotspot-tagged image. Nothing loads sitewide, and there are no external requests. ### What happens if I stop selling a product? Switch it to Draft instead of deleting it. It disappears from your posts immediately, but the hotspot placements stay intact in case you reactivate it later. ### Does it work with any theme? Yes. Hotspots are added by wrapping the theme’s own featured-image output, not by overriding any template file, so it works with any theme using the standard `the_post_thumbnail()` function – effectively all of them. ### Where do hotspots appear – just the featured image? Yes, currently only on the single-post featured image (not archive/grid thumbnails, and not images inside the post content).
