## Description

SearchX replaces the default WooCommerce search with AI-powered instant search:
results appear as the customer types, with typo tolerance, synonyms, smart ranking
and rich filters — so shoppers find the right product in seconds. Built both for
store owners and for agencies and freelancers who build WooCommerce shops for their
clients.

**▶ [Live demo](https://wordpress.searchxengine.ai/)** — a WooCommerce store running
SearchX: type “ipone” and watch typo tolerance find the right products.

#### Search experience

 * **Instant search-as-you-type** — real-time results with product images and prices,
plus recent & top searches and featured products in the popup
 * **Add to cart & wishlist directly from the results** — native WooCommerce add-
   to-cart; YITH WooCommerce Wishlist supported
 * **Full results page** with faceted filters: category, brand, price range, on-
sale, size, color — and search _inside_ the filters
 * **Typo tolerance (adjustable)** — “snaeker” still finds “sneaker”
 * **Greeklish support** (“papoutsia” finds “παπούτσια”) and wrong-keyboard-layout
   detection
 * **Voice search** — shoppers speak instead of typing (supported browsers)
 * **AI semantic matching (beta)** — optional layer matching shopper intent beyond
   exact keywords
 * **Ask AI (beta)** — optional conversational product search (“sofa for a small
   balcony”)
 * **URL filters & deep linking** — results and filters become shareable, bookmarkable
   URLs
 * **Mobile-first** — responsive modal, slide-up filters, touch optimized

#### Merchandising, analytics & catalog

 * Product pinning & showcase (bestsellers, seasonal) and suggested links
 * Synonym groups with visual editor + CSV import, stop words, searchable-attribute
   priorities
 * **Real-time analytics dashboard**: searches, CTR, zero-result queries, top terms&
products, conversion funnel, device & location breakdown, session journeys
 * **Catalog sync via XML feed** (Google Merchant Center, Facebook, Skroutz formats)—
automatic re-import hourly or daily, zero-downtime reindexing, detailed import
   reports
 * Catalogs up to **20,000 products** — larger catalogs are possible, contact us
   first
 * 50+ languages with RTL support and custom translations — English & Greek included

#### Built for WordPress & WooCommerce

 * `[searchx_bar]` and `[searchx_page]` shortcodes — place them in any page, template,
   widget or menu area
 * Settings under **WooCommerce Settings SearchX** (or via `SEARCHX_*` constants
   in wp-config.php)
 * **Server-side proxy**: your private API key is used only server-side and is never
   sent to the browser
 * Uses the React bundled with WordPress core when available
 * HPOS and Cart/Checkout blocks compatible; the plugin never reads or writes orders
 * Inert until configured: nothing loads on your storefront until you save your
   credentials
 * Setup in about 5 minutes — no core or theme files are modified, clean install
and clean uninstall (removes all its options)

#### How it works & pricing

This plugin is a connector for the **SearchX** service. All catalog and search management
happens in the **SearchX admin** ([admin.searchxengine.ai](https://admin.searchxengine.ai)):

 1. Sign up and create your application in the SearchX admin.
 2. Connect your **product XML feed** — Google Merchant Center, Facebook or Skroutz
format. This is how your products get into SearchX: the plugin does **not** read
or sync your WooCommerce product database. SearchX imports the feed and re-syncs
it automatically on a schedule (hourly or daily).
 3. Paste your App ID and API Key into the plugin settings and add the shortcodes.
Search requests are served from the SearchX cloud, so your server stays fast even
    with large catalogs.

A SearchX account is required — 14-day free trial, no credit card required. Pricing
is flat and simple: **€49/month** (or €490/year on the annual plan) for up to 20,000
products and **unlimited searches** — no hidden fees ([pricing](https://searchxengine.ai)).
Synonyms, merchandising, top searches, suggested links, custom widget CSS, custom
translations and analytics are managed in the SearchX admin — the plugin’s settings
tab controls credentials and widget behaviour/appearance.

The optional AI features (**AI semantic matching**, **Ask AI**) are in **beta**.
SearchX adds no extra charge for them, but they require your own OpenAI API key —
OpenAI usage is billed to you by OpenAI. Standard search works fully without them.

#### Add to cart & wishlist

 * **Add to cart** uses WooCommerce’s native flow: clicking add-to-cart in the results
navigates to `?add-to-cart=PRODUCT_ID&quantity=1`. For this to work, the product
IDs in your XML feed (`unique_id`) must be your WooCommerce product IDs.
 * **Wishlist**: when **YITH WooCommerce Wishlist** is active, wishlist clicks are
handled automatically through YITH’s API (via a nonce-protected REST endpoint).
Without YITH, the plugin fires the `SearchX:woocommerceAddToWishlist` browser
event so your theme can implement custom handling — no fatal errors either way.

#### Beyond WooCommerce

SearchX also integrates with **OpenCart** (official marketplace extension), **Shopify**
and custom storefronts — one search platform for every shop you run or build.

#### For agencies & developers

Building shops for clients? The SearchX **Referral Partner** program pays a 20%
recurring commission on every referred subscription, free to join — [learn more](https://searchxengine.ai/en/referral-partners).

#### External services

This plugin connects to the SearchX service. It is inert until you enter your SearchX
credentials; after that:

 * **SearchX API** (`admin.searchxengine.ai`, via a server-side proxy on your site):
receives search queries, an anonymous session identifier and analytics events(
queries, product clicks, page views, add-to-cart events) so search results and
the analytics dashboard work. No customer names, emails or account data are read
from your store. Provider: SearchX — [Terms of Service](https://searchxengine.ai/en/terms-of-service),
   [Privacy/DPA](https://searchxengine.ai/en/dpa).
 * **SearchX CDN** (`sdk.searchxengine.ai`): serves the SearchX SDK JavaScript bundle
   that renders the search UI.
 * **OpenAI** (optional, beta AI features only): if you enable AI features with
your own OpenAI API key, the queries used by those features are processed by
OpenAI under your agreement with OpenAI.

The widget stores in the shopper’s browser (localStorage, first party): an anonymous
session identifier used to group analytics events, the shopper’s recent searches,
and the selected widget language. Depending on your jurisdiction and consent tooling
you may need to disclose these in your privacy/cookie policy.

## Installation

**Requirements:** WordPress 6.5+, WooCommerce 8.0+ (installed and active), PHP 7.4
+, a SearchX account.

#### 1. Create your SearchX application and connect your feed

Sign up at [admin.searchxengine.ai](https://admin.searchxengine.ai) and create your
application. Connect your **product XML feed** (Google Merchant Center, Facebook
or Skroutz format) and choose the import schedule (hourly or daily) — this is how
your products get into SearchX; the plugin does not read your WooCommerce database.
Make sure the feed’s product IDs are your WooCommerce product IDs so add-to-cart
works. Then copy the **App ID** and **API Key** from the application page.

#### 2. Install and activate the plugin

Go to **Plugins Add New**, search for `searchx`, install **SearchX for WooCommerce**
and activate it. The plugin is inert until credentials are configured — before setup
it loads nothing on your storefront.

#### 3. Connect your credentials

Go to **WooCommerce Settings SearchX**, paste your App ID and API Key, and click**
Save changes**. Keep the default API URL unless SearchX support tells you to change
it. Custom widget CSS and translations are configured per application in the SearchX
admin (SDK settings) and are applied automatically.

Prefer keeping credentials out of the database? Define `SEARCHX_APP_ID` and `SEARCHX_API_KEY`
in `wp-config.php` — saved settings take precedence, constants are the fallback.

#### 4. Add the search bar

Add `[searchx_bar]` wherever your storefront search box should appear: a header
template part, widget area, navigation/menu builder area, page-builder block, or
a regular page or post.

#### 5. Create the search results page

Create a page containing `[searchx_page]` — for example a page named “Search”. If
its path is not `/searchx` (the plugin default), go to **WooCommerce Settings
SearchX** and set **Search page path** to your page’s path (e.g. `/search`).

#### 6. Test your search

Open the storefront and type a product keyword — instant results should appear as
you type. Try a misspelled query to see typo tolerance, open the full results page
and try the filters, then test on mobile.

The full illustrated guide, including troubleshooting, lives in the [documentation](https://searchxengine.ai/docs/integration-woocommerce).

## FAQ

### Do I need a SearchX account?

Yes. The plugin is a connector for the SearchX service — a 14-day free trial is
available, no credit card required. Paid plans start at €49/month for up to 20,000
products and unlimited searches.

### How do my products get into SearchX?

Through an XML product feed (Google Merchant Center, Facebook or Skroutz format)
that you connect in the SearchX admin — this is required for the plugin to show
results. SearchX imports the feed and re-syncs it automatically on the schedule
you choose (hourly or daily). The plugin does not read or sync the WooCommerce product
database directly. No feed yet? Any WooCommerce product-feed plugin that outputs
one of these formats works. Make sure the feed’s product IDs match your WooCommerce
product IDs so add-to-cart works.

### Where do I manage the catalog, synonyms, merchandising and analytics?

In the SearchX admin ([admin.searchxengine.ai](https://admin.searchxengine.ai)).
The plugin’s settings tab (WooCommerce Settings SearchX) controls credentials
and widget behaviour/appearance; feed sync, synonyms, pinned products, top searches,
suggested links, custom widget CSS, custom translations and analytics live in the
SearchX dashboard.

### Will it slow down my server?

No. Searches are served by the SearchX cloud. Your server only proxies the requests(
a thin REST endpoint) so your private API key never reaches the browser.

### Does it work with my theme?

The shortcodes render standard containers the SDK mounts into, so any theme that
renders shortcodes works — including block themes. To restyle the widget, upload
or link your custom CSS in the SearchX admin — the widget applies it automatically.

### How do add-to-cart and wishlist work?

Add-to-cart uses WooCommerce’s native `?add-to-cart=PRODUCT_ID&quantity=1` flow —
the SearchX product `unique_id` must be the WooCommerce product ID (set this in
your XML feed). Wishlist is handled automatically when YITH WooCommerce Wishlist
is active; otherwise the `SearchX:woocommerceAddToWishlist` JavaScript event is
fired so your theme can handle it.

### How large a catalog can it handle?

Plans cover catalogs up to 20,000 products. Running a larger catalog? Contact us
before installing.

### What about the AI features?

AI semantic matching and Ask AI are in beta and optional. SearchX adds no extra
charge, but they require your own OpenAI API key (usage billed by OpenAI). Standard
search works fully without them.

### Where is my data processed?

See the “External services” section above. Search queries and anonymous analytics
events are processed by the SearchX service; no customer names, emails or account
data are read from your store.
