## Description

Saasco Multilingual Translation is an AI-powered WordPress translation plugin for
creating fast, SEO-ready multilingual websites.

Translate pages, posts and WooCommerce content manually or automatically with DeepL
or OpenAI using your own API key. Review translations side by side and edit every
segment yourself — your translated pages are real, server-rendered WordPress pages
with their own URLs.

Instead of treating an entire page as one translation, Saasco Multilingual Translation
tracks content segment by segment: every heading, paragraph, button and field has
its own translation and its own status. That is what makes the PRO add-on possible—
change two paragraphs in the source and see exactly what changed, without retranslating
the whole page or overwriting your manual corrections.

#### AI translation with your own API key

Connect your own DeepL or OpenAI API key and translate as much content as you want.

There are no translation credits and no artificial translation limits imposed by
the plugin. You pay the translation provider directly for what you use.

Prefer manual translation? No API key is required.

#### Multilingual SEO included

Every language gets its own server-rendered URL that search engines can crawl and
index.

The free plugin includes:

 * SEO-friendly language URLs
 * translated slugs
 * translated metadata
 * hreflang tags with x-default
 * self-referencing canonical URLs
 * multilingual XML sitemap support

Your translated pages are real WordPress pages — not dynamically replaced text rendered
by an external translation proxy.

#### Side-by-side translation editor

Translate and review content using a dedicated editor:

 * source content on the left
 * translated content on the right
 * segment-by-segment editing
 * translation status for every segment

You stay in control of every translation, whether it was created manually or with
AI.

#### WooCommerce translation

Create multilingual WooCommerce stores with support for essential store content
including:

 * products
 * product categories
 * cart
 * checkout

Visitors can browse your store and complete their purchase in their selected language.

#### Language switcher

Add a language switcher anywhere on your WordPress site, including block themes.

It is available as:

 * a Gutenberg block
 * a widget
 * a shortcode
 * a WordPress menu item

When a translation does not exist, the switcher points visitors to the closest available
equivalent instead of sending them back to the source-language homepage.

#### Translate content, not HTML

The translation engine does not send your page HTML to the translation provider.

It works with text segments and lightweight position markers — `Order <0>today</
0>` — keeping HTML structure, CSS classes, URLs and data attributes outside the
translation process.

This significantly reduces the risk of machine translation breaking your page layout.

#### Your translations stay in WordPress

Translations are stored in your own WordPress database as regular WordPress content.

There is no external translation server involved in rendering your pages and no
SaaS platform required to keep your translations online.

If you stop using an AI provider — or stop using PRO — your translated content remains
in your WordPress database.

#### Import from Polylang

Already running a multilingual website with Polylang?

Saasco Multilingual Translation includes a resumable Polylang import process. Your
existing Polylang data is left untouched during the import.

#### What you get for free

The free version includes:

 * unlimited languages
 * manual translations
 * unlimited AI translation with your own DeepL or OpenAI API key
 * multilingual SEO: translated URLs and metadata, hreflang and canonical tags,
   XML sitemap support
 * language switcher
 * side-by-side translation editor
 * theme and plugin interface strings
 * WooCommerce basics
 * Polylang import
 * server-rendered translated pages stored in your own WordPress database

#### Smart change tracking and more in PRO

Publishing a translation is only the beginning. When you update your original content,
the [PRO add-on](https://saasco.pl/products/multilingual-translation) tracks which
segments actually changed, marks only those as outdated and lets you retranslate
just the changed content — your manual edits to everything else stay untouched.

PRO also adds:

 * word-level diff of what changed in the source
 * translation health dashboard: what is up to date, outdated or missing across
   all languages
 * bulk translation running in the background
 * translation memory
 * glossary and brand voice
 * full parsers for Divi, ACF and synced blocks
 * WooCommerce: shared stock across languages, orders and customer emails in the
   customer’s language
 * translator roles and permissions

The PRO licence only ever controls updates and support. Your site keeps working
and your translations stay in place regardless of licence status.

### External services

Saasco Multilingual Translation makes no external requests while rendering your
site, and none at all unless you connect a machine-translation provider yourself.
If you do, the plugin sends the text of the segments you ask it to translate (with
lightweight position markers, never your HTML, URLs or attributes), plus the source
and target language codes, to the provider you configured, using the API key you
provide. This happens only when you or a background job you started requests a machine
translation, and when you test the key on the settings screen.

 * **OpenAI** (api.openai.com) — [Terms of use](https://openai.com/policies/terms-of-use)·

Your API key is stored encrypted in your own database and is sent only to the provider
it belongs to. Saasco Multilingual Translation has no server of its own in this
flow and never receives your text, your key or your usage.

### Source code

The admin interface is built with @wordpress/scripts. The human-readable sources
are shipped in the `assets/` directory of this plugin; `build/` contains the compiled
output. Rebuild with `npm install && npm run build` in the plugin root.

## Blocks

This plugin provides 1 block.

 * Language switcher Lets visitors switch between language versions of the page
   they are on.

## Installation

 1. Install the plugin from **Plugins Add New**, or upload the ZIP under **Plugins
    Add New Upload Plugin**, then activate it.
 2. Activation opens the setup wizard (**Saasco Multilingual Translation Set up**).
    In **Which languages?**, add the language your content is already written in —
    it becomes the source — then add the languages you want to translate into.
 3. In **How should addresses look?**, choose the URL prefixes. Each language gets
    its own server-rendered address, for example `/de/` and `/fr/`. You can also give
    the source language a prefix of its own.
 4. In **Let visitors switch**, place the language switcher. It is available as a block,
    a widget, a menu item under **Appearance Menus**, and as the `[saasco_mt_switcher]`
    shortcode.
 5. Optionally connect a machine-translation provider under **Saasco Multilingual Translation
    AI and providers**. Paste your own DeepL or OpenAI key — it is stored encrypted
    in your database and sent only to that provider. You can skip this and translate
    everything by hand.
 6. Open any post or page and choose **Translate**. The side-by-side editor shows the
    source on the left and the translation on the right, segment by segment; save to
    publish the translated version at its own URL.

## FAQ

### Do I need an API key?

No. You can translate everything by hand. The AI key is optional and it is yours—
Saasco Multilingual Translation never sees your text or your key.

### What happens if I deactivate the plugin?

Your translations stay in the database as normal posts. Uninstalling does not delete
them either, unless you explicitly turn that on in the settings.

### Does it work with page builders?

Gutenberg, Elementor and Bricks are handled at text level in the free version. Full
Divi, ACF repeaters and synced blocks are part of PRO.

### Will it slow my site down?

Translations are stored, not generated on the fly. Saasco Multilingual Translation
adds at most four database queries to a front-end request and makes zero outbound
HTTP calls while rendering a page.
