#### Ad-Blocker Resistance: How the Same-Origin Proxy Works

Many browser extensions and DNS blockers block third-party analytics domains (`google-
analytics.com`, etc.) by default. PureMetrix includes an integrated reverse proxy:

 * Tracking script: `https://yourdomain.com/px/js`
 * Event collector: `https://yourdomain.com/px/event`

Because the requests originate from and terminate at your own domain, legitimate
analytics data is captured accurately without triggering third-party blocking heuristics,

#### Automated WooCommerce Tracking

When WooCommerce is installed, PureMetrix automatically listens to the `woocommerce_thankyou`
hook. If a Private Ingest Key is configured, the plugin securely dispatches a server-
side `Purchase` event containing:
 * Revenue amount and currency * Quantity of items
purchased * Coupon code used (if applicable)

Customer names, email addresses, billing addresses, and raw order IDs are strictly

### External Services

This plugin talks to PureMetrix hosts only for analytics ingest, optional cloud 
setup, optional in-WP dashboard stats (private key API), or when you explicitly 
submit in-plugin feedback. Tracking works once Domain + Public Key are set (1-Click
Connect, Connect Token, or manual/self-hosted keys). The native in-WP dashboard 
is optional and is not required for collecting stats.

#### PureMetrix Ingest Service (collect.puremetrix.org)

 * **Tracking script:** The public script is loaded from `https://collect.puremetrix.
   org/js/script.js`, or same-origin via your site at `/px/js` when the Same-Origin
   Proxy is enabled.
 * **Analytics Beacon:** Anonymous pageview and interaction events go to `https://
   collect.puremetrix.org/api/event` (or proxied via your own domain at `/px/event`).
   PureMetrix stores no cookies and generates non-reversible, daily-salted visitor
   hashes in memory. During setup, an optional admin-triggered **test pageview**
   posts once to the same collect endpoint to verify keys before charts appear.
 * **WooCommerce Purchase Events (optional):** If WooCommerce is active and a Private
   Ingest Key is configured, server-side `Purchase` events are sent with order total,
   item count, coupon codes, and the order’s customer IP address + user-agent. Ingest
   hashes these into the daily visitor id and discards the raw values — they are
   never stored. Customer names, emails, billing details, and other personal data
   are strictly excluded.

#### PureMetrix Cloud (app.puremetrix.org)

 * **1-Click Connect Handshake (optional):** When you click “Connect with PureMetrix”
   or enter a Connect Token, WordPress connects to `https://app.puremetrix.org/wordpress/
   connect` and `https://app.puremetrix.org/api/plugin/connect` to exchange tracking
   keys and optionally configure a Shared Link for the live dashboard.
 * **Shared Link Setup (optional):** The “Set up live dashboard” / Shared Link action
   opens `https://app.puremetrix.org/wordpress/shared-link` so you can create or
   refresh a Shared Link and return it to WordPress. You can also paste a Shared
   Link URL manually.
 * **Shared Link status check (optional):** When a Shared Link is stored, WordPress
   may probe `https://app.puremetrix.org/api/shared-links/status` (or fall back 
   to a short GET of the share URL) so a revoked/expired link can be cleared. Results
   are cached briefly; network failures do not clear a working link.
 * **In-Plugin Dashboard (optional):** If the embedded dashboard option is enabled
   and a Private Site Key is configured, WordPress admin loads a native preview 
   via `POST https://app.puremetrix.org/api/plugin/dashboard` (Bearer private key)—
   no admin iframe. Open Cloud Dashboard for the full Cloud UI. Disable the in-WP
   dashboard anytime under Settings; tracking continues via the snippet/proxy.
 * **Product telemetry (opt-in only):** If you allow anonymous product usage during
   setup (or later under Settings  Privacy), WordPress may POST setup/connect funnel
   events to `https://app.puremetrix.org/api/plugin/telemetry`. Payload is limited
   to a pseudonymous site hash, event name, plugin/WordPress/PHP versions, and step
   metadata — never visitor analytics or page content. Nothing is sent while consent
   is unset or declined.
 * **In-Plugin Feedback & Deactivation Survey (explicit submit only):** When you
   submit the optional “Give Feedback” dialog or deactivation survey, feedback is
   sent over HTTPS to `https://app.puremetrix.org/api/plugin/feedback`. Transmitted
   data includes:
    - Feedback category (`bug`, `feature`, `general`, or `deactivate`)
    - Sentiment rating (`positive`, `neutral`, `negative`)
    - Optional free-text message and deactivation reason
    - Domain and pseudonymous site hash (derived from your public site key or hashed
      URL)
    - Plugin version, WordPress version, and PHP version
    - Optional contact email (only if you voluntarily enter it for replies)
       No 
      sensitive credentials, database content, or visitor personal data are ever
      included.

## Installation

#### From WordPress Admin

 1. Go to **Plugins  Add New  Upload Plugin**.
 2. Select `puremetrix-analytics-0.1.17.zip` and click **Install Now**.
 3. Click **Activate Plugin**.
 4. Navigate to **PureMetrix  Settings** in your WordPress sidebar.
 5. Click **Connect with PureMetrix (1-Click)** or paste your Connect Token. Your domain,
    public key, private key, and dashboard are configured automatically in seconds!
 6. (Optional) Enable **Same-Origin Proxy** to bypass browser ad-blockers and configure
    role exclusions.
 7. Click **Save Changes**.

## FAQ

### Do I really not need a cookie banner?

PureMetrix sets no analytics cookies and does not write tracking identifiers for
measurement. The only optional first-party localStorage key is `puremetrix_ignore`,
which you may set yourself to opt a browser out of sending events (documented under
Excluding); it is never written automatically. Visitor hashes are generated in memory
on the ingest server using a daily rotating cryptographic salt and the visitor’s
IP and User Agent, then discarded. Raw IP addresses are never stored — for WooCommerce/
EDD purchases the order customer IP is used only to compute the same daily hash (
Bearer server events), then discarded. We do not claim a blanket “no cookie banner
required” — that depends on jurisdiction and your other tools (ads, chat, CMPs).

SaaS).

### How does in-plugin feedback work and what data is shared?

Feedback is 100% voluntary and only sent when you explicitly click “Submit Feedback”
or complete the optional deactivation survey. It transmits your rating, message,
versions (plugin, WP, PHP), domain, and a pseudonymous site hash to help us improve
the product. It never collects passwords, database content, or visitor information.

### Can I use PureMetrix with a self-hosted instance?

Yes. In Settings  Advanced / Manual Configuration, you can enter any custom API 
Ingest Host and manual keys.

### Is the in-admin dashboard required?

No. Connect + tracking snippet (+ optional Same-Origin Proxy) is the core. The live
dashboard in WordPress admin is completely optional: it provides a fast, native 
in-WP dashboard preview queried directly via your secure Private Site Key API (no
slow or clunky iframes). You can turn the in-admin dashboard preview off under Settings
and still collect stats; open the full Cloud Explorer on PureMetrix Cloud anytime.

Shared Link URLs can also optionally be configured to allow team members or clients

### Does the plugin slow down my website?

Not at all. The PureMetrix script is < 3 KB gzip (compared to Google Analytics’ 
~135 KB bundle) and loads with the `defer` attribute. It executes asynchronously
off the critical rendering path, ensuring zero impact on your Core Web Vitals (LCP,

### How does the Same-Origin Proxy work?

When enabled, WordPress rewrite rules route `/px/js` to fetch and cache the script,
and `/px/event` to securely forward the event payload to the PureMetrix ingest service
over a server-to-server HTTP request. Client IP extraction safely parses `CF-Connecting-

### Can I exclude my own visits from the analytics?

Yes. In **Settings  PureMetrix**, the **Privacy & Role Exclusions** section allows
you to select any WordPress user roles (such as Administrator, Editor, Author).
