## Description

If you write about camping, RVs, off-grid living or getting ready for power outages,
your readers keep asking the same thing: how long will this power station run my
stuff? This plugin adds a calculator that answers it, right in your post.

Visitors pick a power station (more than 50 models from Anker SOLIX, BLUETTI, DJI,
EcoFlow, Goal Zero and Jackery, or any battery size they type in), add their devices,
and get the number of hours. It also tells them when a station can’t start something,
like a fridge whose startup surge is higher than the station’s limit.

The power station specs come from the manufacturers’ own pages and manuals. The
appliance wattages list their sources. Runtimes allow for about 15% inverter loss.

You can set which model shows first, pick light or dark colors (or let it follow
the visitor’s system setting), and change the starting height. On your site the
frame then resizes itself to fit, so there’s no scrollbar inside it.

There’s an optional “Calculator by OutageMath” link you can show under the calculator,
on your page. It’s off unless you turn it on. (Inside the calculator frame there’s
always a small “by OutageMath” line and a link to open the full calculator, the
same as on any embed.)

No ads, no tracking, no sign-up.

#### Shortcode

    ```
    [outagemath_calculator]
    [outagemath_calculator model="jackery-explorer-1000-plus" theme="dark" height="900"]
    ```

 * `model`: the model shown first. Settings > OutageMath Calculator lists every
   slug.
 * `theme`: `light` or `dark`. Leave it out to follow the visitor’s system setting.
 * `height`: starting height in pixels, 300 to 3000.

### External services

The calculator is hosted on OutageMath (https://www.outagemath.com) and shown in
an iframe from https://www.outagemath.com/embed/runtime-calculator/.

It loads when someone views a page that contains the block or the shortcode, or
when you edit such a page in the block editor. The visitor’s browser then requests
the page from www.outagemath.com, which sends what any web request sends: IP address,
browser user agent and the address of the page it’s embedded on. The URL also includes
the model and colors you picked. Your WordPress server doesn’t send anything.

The devices and numbers visitors enter stay in their browser and aren’t sent to
OutageMath. The calculator page sets no cookies of its own and has no ads or analytics.
The site is served through Cloudflare.

## Blocks

This plugin provides 1 block.

 * Power Station Runtime Calculator How long will a portable power station run
   your devices? Visitors pick a model, add devices and see the hours.

## Installation

 1. Go to Plugins > Add New, search for “OutageMath Runtime Calculator”, install it
    and activate it.
 2. If you want, set the default model, colors and credit link under Settings > OutageMath
    Calculator.
 3. Add the “Power Station Runtime Calculator” block to a post or page. If you use
    the classic editor, a widget or a page builder, paste `[outagemath_calculator]`
    instead.

## FAQ

### Will it slow my page down?

The calculator loads lazily, when a visitor scrolls near it. On your own page the
plugin adds one small script (under 1 KB) that resizes the frame.

### Does it work with the classic editor or page builders?

Yes, through the shortcode. It works anywhere shortcodes do, including Elementor
and Divi.

### Can visitors pick a different power station?

Yes. The model you set is only the one shown first. Visitors can switch to any model
or type in their own battery size.

### Where do the numbers come from?

Power station specs come from the manufacturers’ product pages and manuals. Appliance
wattages come from manufacturer documents, ENERGY STAR and generator makers’ wattage
guides. Every model and appliance page on https://www.outagemath.com lists its sources.

### Can people use it for medical equipment?

For planning, yes. Real runtimes depend on settings, temperature and battery age.
Anyone who depends on powered medical equipment should check the label on their
own device, talk to their supplier, and not rely on a single battery.

### Do I have to show a link to OutageMath?

No. The link is off by default, and the calculator works exactly the same without
it.
