## Description

Mate Connector is the official connector plugin for WPMate (wpmate.ai).

WPMate lets you manage this site by chatting with your AI assistant:

 * Write new posts and pages, rewrite existing ones, and schedule posts for later(
   drafts first, with preview links)
 * Upload images, set featured images and fill in missing alt text
 * Write SEO titles, meta descriptions and focus keyphrases through Yoast, Rank
   Math, AIOSEO or SEOPress
 * Run read-only SEO and security audits that tell you what to improve

Publishing, scheduling and trashing wait for your approval in the WPMate dashboard.
Every content edit keeps a WordPress revision so it can be undone.

Mate Connector works with content only. WPMate never acts as an administrator: connecting
creates a restricted “WPMate” user (WPMate Editor role) that can write and edit
posts, pages and media but cannot install, update or remove plugins or themes, change
site code or CSS, manage users or change site settings. The WPMate user cannot log
in, and disconnecting deletes it.

#### How it connects

 1. Create a free account at wpmate.ai and click “Create connection code”.
 2. In WordPress go to Settings WPMate, paste the code and click Connect.
 3. Add WPMate to Claude or ChatGPT as a connector.

No password is shared. Requests from WPMate run as the restricted WPMate user, never
as an administrator. Each request is signed with a secret unique to your site and
is rejected if it is unsigned, older than five minutes or reused.

#### External service

This plugin connects to the WPMate service at https://wpmate.ai, operated by PILOTLAB
LLC (Wyoming, USA), which you sign up for separately. When you connect, the plugin
sends this site’s address, name, WordPress version and plugin version to WPMate.
Afterwards WPMate sends signed requests to this site when you ask your AI assistant
to do something. Terms: https://wpmate.ai/terms. Privacy: https://wpmate.ai/privacy.

### Privacy

Mate Connector stores a connection secret and the WPMate site ID in this site’s
options and creates the restricted WPMate user described below. It contacts WPMate
only when you click Connect. After that, WPMate contacts this site with signed requests
when you ask your AI assistant to do something; each action and its result are logged
in your WPMate dashboard. Disconnecting (Settings WPMate, or deleting the plugin)
removes the stored secret.

## Installation

 1. Install and activate Mate Connector from Plugins Add New, or upload the zip.
 2. Create a free account at https://wpmate.ai and click “Create connection code”.
 3. Go to Settings WPMate, paste the code and click Connect.
 4. In Claude or ChatGPT, add WPMate as a connector using https://wpmate.ai/mcp and
    sign in.

## FAQ

### Which user does WPMate act as?

A restricted user named “WPMate” that Mate Connector creates when you connect. Its
WPMate Editor role can write, edit, publish and trash posts and pages, upload media
and read site information. It has no administrator capabilities, cannot save unfiltered
HTML, cannot log in and cannot use application passwords. New posts are credited
to the administrator who connected the site. If that administrator loses admin rights,
WPMate stops working until an admin reconnects. Disconnecting deletes the WPMate
user and reassigns anything it owns to that administrator.

### Can WPMate update my plugins or themes?

No. The security audit lists what needs updating; you apply updates in wp-admin
as usual.

### How do I disconnect?

Settings WPMate Disconnect, or remove the site in your WPMate dashboard.

## Changelog

#### 1.2.0

 * Security: requests from WPMate now run as a dedicated restricted “WPMate” user(
WPMate Editor role: content and media only, no administrator capabilities, no
unfiltered HTML, no login) instead of the administrator who connected the site.
Sites connected earlier are moved to it when an administrator next opens wp-admin.
   Disconnecting deletes the user.
 * The security audit no longer lists administrator usernames.
 * Security: content actions only work on public content types the WPMate user may
edit, so theme templates, global styles, navigation menus, custom CSS and Customizer
changesets can’t be read or changed.
 * Fix: PHP notice when undoing with restore_revision.
 * New: set the focus keyphrase (Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO, SEOPress, or WPMate’s
own field), list items missing a focus keyphrase, SEO title or meta description,
and see keyphrase checks in the SEO audit (missing, not in title, description
   or content, duplicates).

#### 1.1.0

 * Changed: Mate Connector now covers content, media, SEO fields and read-only audits
only. Plugin and theme management, rollback snapshots, custom CSS and settings
changes were removed; old snapshot files are deleted on upgrade.
 * Security: every action checks the connected user’s capability before it runs (
e.g. audits and site info need manage_options).
 * New: schedule posts with status “future” and a date; a schedule without a future
date is refused instead of publishing at once.
 * New: the security audit flags plugins and themes with no update information (
e.g. premium products), and plugin and theme lists show update_available “unknown”
   for them.
 * Fix: editing a page whose stored template the active theme no longer has (common
after a theme switch) reported “Invalid page template” although the content was
saved, and skipped the revision and SEO fields. Edits now save cleanly and keep
   the page’s template.
 * New: set or clear a page’s template with the “template” field (“” for the default).
get_content shows whether the stored template still exists.
 * Fix: content edits now return undo_revision_id, the revision holding the version
from just before the edit. The revision id returned before was the new version,
so restoring it did not undo anything.
 * Fix: SEO title and meta description edits now return the previous values and
keep a short history, since WordPress revisions do not cover them. Responses
only mention a revision when the edit created one.
 * Fix: the SEO audit counted 0 words on pages built with shortcode builders (Avada/
Fusion, WPBakery, Divi). It now counts the text inside the shortcodes, and counts
   non-Latin scripts.
 * New: site_info detects Avada/Fusion Builder, and finds shortcode builder content
even when the builder is no longer active.

#### 1.0.0

 * First public release: content, media, plugins, themes, custom CSS, settings,
SEO audit and security audit tools, with approvals, revisions and rollback snapshots.
