ListingKit reads Houzez’s own property post type, taxonomies and fields — it is not a standalone search plugin.** On a small demo site, Houzez’s built-in search feels fine. On a real portal it does not. Every search submits a form, reloads the entire page, and asks the database to filter your listings through WordPress meta queries — the header, menu, map scripts and footer all rebuild just to show twelve different cards. At two thousand listings it drags; at ten thousand every filter change is a wait, and your visitors feel it. **ListingKit fixes the root cause.** It builds a dedicated, indexed set of lookup tables for your properties and filters against those instead of grinding through post meta — so results update **in place, instantly, with no page reload.** Change the bedroom count and the cards refresh where they stand: no white flash, no lost scroll position, no rebuilding the whole page. > **Free finds them. Pro shows where they are.** The free engine answers _“which > listings match?”_ at any catalogue size. Pro answers _“where are they?”_ — with > interactive maps, agent and agency filtering, and lead-capture tools. #### Why it is fast (the indexed engine) Instead of querying `wp_postmeta` — where every property scatters its price, beds, baths, size and dozens of custom fields across many rows — ListingKit maintains three purpose-built tables: * an **index** table with one row per property holding the numeric and status columns visitors actually filter on (price, bedrooms, bathrooms, size, land size, garage, year built, featured); * a **terms** table mapping each property to its taxonomies; and * a **custom-field (EAV)** table for everything you add in Houzez Fields Builder. A filter becomes a single, tight, indexed query rather than dozens of meta lookups. That is why it stays fast as your catalogue grows — and why it uses **less** of your server than Houzez’s native search does today, not more. Houzez’s Insights records each visit and, to do so, asks a third-party IP geolocation service which city the visitor is in — a request that blocks the page until it answers. When that lookup is about to happen, this plugin performs the _same_ request in the background instead, and serves the answer from a short-lived cache. Because of that, when this feature is enabled the plugin sends the **visitor’s IP address** to one of the following services — the same services Houzez itself uses— to retrieve an approximate city and country: * **ipwho.is** — the visitor’s IP is sent to https://ipwho.is/ . Terms and privacy policy: https://ipwho.is/ * **ipapi.co** — used only as a fallback if ipwho.is does not respond; the visitor’s IP is sent to https://ipapi.co/ . Terms: https://ipapi.co/terms/ — Privacy: https:// ipapi.co/privacy/ Only the visitor’s IP address is sent, only when Houzez would already have made this lookup, and each result is cached so the same address is not looked up repeatedly. No request is made for a visitor whose location Houzez does not look up. Install and activate 1. In WordPress, go to **Plugins Add New Upload Plugin**, choose the ZIP, and click** Install Now**. 2. Click **Activate**. #### 2. Build the index (do this once) Searches read the index, so they return nothing until it is built. 1. Go to **Fast Search** in the WordPress admin menu. 2. Check the **Indexed: X / Y properties** line. 3. If it does not match your property count, click **Rebuild Index**. The rebuild runs in the background and continues after you leave the page. On a very large catalogue with WP-Cron disabled, run it from the command line instead: ``` wp listingkit index rebuild ``` From then on, properties are indexed automatically as they are saved. #### 3. Use the page created for you On activation the plugin creates a **Fast Search Results** page at `/fast-search- results/` containing a working search bar and results list. It is an ordinary WordPress page — edit it, restyle it, or delete it and build your own. #### 4. Place the search bar wherever you want it **With Elementor:** edit any page, open the widget panel, and find the **Houzez Elements** category. Drag in: * **ListingKit Fast Search & Filter** — the search bar * **ListingKit Search Results** — the results list (only needed when you build your own results page) Select the search widget and open **Filter Fields** to choose which fields appear, reorder them, rename their labels, and set each field’s width. **Without Elementor**, use the shortcodes in any page, post or widget area: ``` [listingkit_fast_search] [listingkit_fast_search_results] ``` #### 5. Point the search bar at a results page By default the search bar submits to the **Fast Search Results** page. If you build your own, place the **ListingKit Search Results** widget on it and the search bar will find it. ## FAQ ### Does this work without the Houzez theme? No. ListingKit is built specifically around Houzez’s property post type, taxonomies and field naming. It is not a general-purpose filter plugin and will not do anything on a non-Houzez site. ### Is Elementor required? No. Elementor is fully supported with native widgets, but everything also works through the `[listingkit_fast_search]` and `[listingkit_fast_search_results]` shortcodes in any page builder, classic editor, or widget area. ### Is there a limit on the number of listings? No. Both Free and Pro are uncapped. The indexed architecture is designed precisely so that filtering stays fast whether you have fifty listings or fifty thousand. ### I imported thousands of listings with a CSV/XML importer and they aren’t searchable. What do I do? Bulk importers often write directly to the database and bypass WordPress’s normal save hooks, so those listings aren’t indexed yet. Run a one-time reindex: click ** Rebuild Index** on the Fast Search screen, or on large catalogues run `wp listingkit index rebuild` from WP-CLI. Normal edits made through WordPress are indexed automatically— the manual rebuild is only for imports that skip the save hooks. ### Does Pro replace the free plugin? No. Pro is an **add-on**: the free plugin stays installed and keeps running the indexed search engine, and Pro attaches its map, agent/agency and lead-generation features on top. Nothing in Free is removed, throttled, or gated when Pro is active. ### Do I need Google Maps or Mapbox API keys? Pro **inherits your existing Houzez map configuration** — whichever provider and API key you have already set up in the Houzez theme options (OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, or Mapbox). There is no separate map setup inside ListingKit. ### Will this change how my listings look? No. ListingKit renders Houzez’s own listing cards, styling and layout classes. Your results look exactly as they do now — they simply arrive faster and without a page reload. ### What happens to my data if I deactivate it? Your site returns to Houzez’s native search.
