Out of the box, WordPress hands email to your server’s PHP `mail()` function, which many hosts block and most inboxes don’t trust. Lexiata SMTP sends every WordPress email through a real mail server instead – your Gmail or Google Workspace account, Microsoft 365, your hosting mailbox, or a sending service like Brevo or SendGrid. Your emails leave signed in, from your own address, which makes them far more likely to reach the inbox. It is deliberately small. No upsell banners, no dashboard clutter, no tracking – just the three things you need: **connect**, **test**, and **see what was sent**. #### Set up in about two minutes Pick your email service and Lexiata SMTP fills in the server, port and encryption for you. Type your username and password, save, and you are done. Every preset comes with a short, current note on the one thing people usually get wrong – like Gmail’s App Password or SendGrid’s “apikey” username. The full SMTP conversation is one click away, with passwords and message content hidden, so you can safely send it to your host. #### An email log you’ll actually use See every email your site sends: recipient, subject, sent or failed, the exact error, attachments, and **which plugin sent it** – WooCommerce, Contact Form 7, your theme, or WordPress itself. Filter by status, search by recipient or subject, and let old entries clean themselves up after 7 to 180 days. The log never stores message content, so order details and form submissions stay out of your database. If emails start failing, you’ll see a short notice on the Dashboard with the last error – before your customers tell you. #### Lightweight by design * Zero front-end CSS or JavaScript. Go to **Plugins Add New**, search for **Lexiata SMTP**, then click **Install Now** and **Activate**. 2. Open **Settings Lexiata SMTP**. 3. Choose your email service and enter your username and password. 4. Set the From email – ideally the same address you signed in with – and click ** Save changes**. 5. Open the **Send test** tab and send yourself a test email. ## FAQ ### Why is WordPress not sending emails? WordPress uses PHP `mail()` by default. Many hosts disable it, and emails that do go out aren’t authenticated, so Gmail and Outlook often reject them or file them as spam. Sending through SMTP fixes both problems. ### Which port and encryption should I use? Port 587 with TLS works almost everywhere. Port 465 uses SSL. If your host blocks both, some services (such as SMTP2GO and Brevo) also accept port 2525. Choosing a preset sets this for you. ### Gmail says my password is wrong Google doesn’t accept your normal password for SMTP. Turn on 2-Step Verification for the account, create an App Password at myaccount.google.com/apppasswords, and paste the 16-character code into the password field. ### Does it work with Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com? Microsoft 365 business mailboxes work when SMTP AUTH is enabled for the mailbox. Personal Outlook.com and Hotmail accounts no longer accept password sign-in over SMTP. Microsoft has also announced that password-based SMTP AUTH will be switched off for existing tenants at the end of December 2026 (admins can re-enable it for now), so for a long-term setup a sending service such as Brevo or SendGrid is the safer choice. ### The test email arrives, but real emails go to spam SMTP fixes how email leaves your site. Inboxes also check that your domain authorises the sender through SPF, DKIM and DMARC DNS records. Your email provider gives you the exact records to add – once they’re in place, inbox placement improves dramatically. Also make sure the From email is on your own domain. ### Emails from WooCommerce or my form plugin show a different From address Keep “Use this From email for every message” turned on. Most SMTP servers only send as the mailbox you signed in with, and this setting makes sure other plugins can’t override it. ### Is my SMTP password safe? It’s encrypted with libsodium, using a key derived from your site’s security keys, before it’s stored. It’s never shown again after saving. If you’d rather not store it at all, define `LXSMTP_PASS` in `wp-config.php`. Note: if your WordPress security keys (salts) change, simply re-enter the password – the plugin will tell you. ### Does the email log store the content of my emails? No. It stores the recipient, subject, status, error message, attachment count, the plugin that sent it, and the time. Message bodies are never saved. Entries are deleted automatically after the period you choose, and you can turn the log off completely. ### Can I use it together with another SMTP plugin? Please use one SMTP plugin at a time. Two plugins configuring the mailer will override each other. ### Does it support multisite? Yes. Each site has its own settings and log. Network activation creates the log table on every site. ### How do I report a bug? Open **Settings Lexiata SMTP** and click **Report a bug** in the top-right corner. Your email app opens a message to info@lexiata.lk with a short template and your site’s technical details (WordPress, PHP and PHPMailer versions, mail route). Passwords, usernames and recipient addresses are never included, and nothing is sent until you press Send. You can also post in the support forum. ### What happens to my data if I delete the plugin? By default your settings and log are kept, so reinstalling restores your setup.
