This is a user-initiated action — the plugin never contacts external servers automatically or without your input. * Data sent: an HTTP GET request to the URL you provide. * No user data or site data is transmitted to any third party. * The fetched page content is processed locally on your server and cached temporarily as a transient. No other external connections are made by the free plugin. ## FAQ ### The “Internal links” column is missing from my Posts or Pages list This is almost always caused by a column-manager plugin, not by LinkWise. Plugins such as Admin Columns / Admin Columns Manager and Admin and Site Enhancements (ASE) Pro take over the admin column list and rebuild it from their own saved configuration, which strips out columns added by other plugins. You have two options: 1. If you do not need the column manager, deactivate it and the “Internal links” column returns. 2. If you want to keep the column manager, add LinkWise’s “Internal links” column through that plugin’s own column interface, since it controls which columns appear. The same applies to any ghost column left behind by a deleted plugin: if a column you no longer recognise still appears in Screen Options, an active column-manager plugin is registering it, not leftover database data. ### The internal-links counter shows “building…” and does not finish The counts are built from the Link Report cache in the background. If it does not resolve, open LinkWise and let the Link Report run once; the counts then appear on the Posts list. On very large sites the first build can take a moment. ### “Suggest keywords from my site” reports the prompt is too long Fixed in 2.20.1. Anything above the cap is left untouched and reported, rather than being pushed through a request your host would cut off. #### 2.12.0 * New: “Suggest keywords from my site”. You no longer need a competitor URL to get started — LinkWise reads your own published pages, works out what the business does, and proposes the phrases each page should own along with subjects you plainly should cover but have not. * Suggestions you already track are filtered out, and if the AI names a page that does not exist the keyword is kept as a content gap rather than assigned to nothing. * Results arrive in the same checklist as competitor imports, so nothing is saved until you tick it. #### 2.11.0 * New: outbound references. A “Find references” button in the post editor asks your AI provider for authoritative external sources worth citing, and offers them for you to add one at a time. * Every suggested link is fetched and checked before you see it, so invented or dead URLs are discarded rather than offered. Suggestions must also use an anchor phrase that already exists in your post, so a citation never rewrites your sentence. * You control which domains are acceptable with an allow list and a block list, both covering subdomains, and your own site is never suggested. * Nothing is inserted automatically — outbound links send authority away from your site, so each one is your decision. rel=”noopener” is always applied, with optional nofollow and open-in-new-tab. #### 2.10.3 * The Link Decay Watchdog no longer runs two full site scans back to back. It now reuses the scans already cached from your normal use, only rebuilds what is genuinely missing, and splits its weekly check across two scheduled runs a few minutes apart — so it can never be the cause of an unexplained load spike on shared hosting. * Turning the watchdog off, or deactivating the plugin, now cancels any follow- up check that was already queued. #### 2.10.2 * Fixed Fix Orphans halting with repeated connection errors. Each orphan was loading the whole site index before it could be fixed, which on a large site runs long enough for the host to cut the connection off mid-request. * New setting: Post statuses to link. Published only remains the default, so LinkWise never edits a post you are still working on, and you can now switch on drafts, pending, private or scheduled content if you want it included. Links always point at published pages regardless, so a link can never lead somewhere a visitor cannot see. #### 2.10.1 * Fixed Fix Orphans failing with a server error on larger sites. It was rescanning the entire site inside a single request before it began, which on a big site runs for minutes and gets cut off by the host. It now uses the link data already gathered by the Link Report, and asks you to visit that tab first if no scan has been run yet. * Fix Orphans now respects the same pacing and single-job rules as every other bulk operation. #### 2.10.0 * The Keywords screen is now split into tabs — Keywords, Content gaps, Wide focus and Add keywords — instead of stacking every section into one long page you had to scroll through. Each tab shows its own count, and the tab you are on is remembered in the address bar so a refresh keeps your place. * Everything stays inside a single form, so switching tabs never loses unsaved changes and Save works from any of them. #### 2.9.10 * Rebuilt the keyword table layout. Long phrases no longer wrap under their badge, columns have fixed proportions so nothing pushes anything else out of place, and rows have room to breathe. * The Source column now shows the site name as a link instead of a full URL, so a long tracking link can no longer overflow the column. * Search-engine redirect links are unwrapped when saved, so a keyword copied from Google search results records the site it actually came from rather than google. com. * Added a filter box above the table, shown once you have more than 25 keywords, with a count of how many are visible. #### 2.9.9 * The Content gaps panel now simply lists the keywords counted on the Content gaps card — every keyword with no page assigned — with no scan needed. Copy list and Download CSV work immediately, so the list can go straight into a content plan. * Checking which gaps your content already mentions is now an optional extra rather than a filter, so nothing is hidden from the list. #### 2.9.8 * The content-gap section is now a proper “Post ideas” panel and is always visible. Previously it only appeared when a keyword had no page assigned at all, so when the AI matched every keyword to a page the whole section disappeared — which hid exactly the information it was meant to surface. * Post ideas are now based on what you have actually published, not on what is assigned. A keyword pointing at a page still counts as an idea if nothing on the site mentions the phrase, and is labelled so you can see why. * Added Copy list and Download CSV so the ideas can be taken straight into your writing plan. * The scan runs in small batches with visible progress, so a long keyword list will not strain the server. #### 2.9.7 * The brand terms field now saves through the standard WordPress settings flow instead of being read from the form directly, which removes the last security warning and makes the field behave like every other setting. Existing brand terms are carried over automatically. #### 2.9.6 * Security hardening pass. The plugin now contains no hand-written SQL at all — the two remaining queries were rewritten to use WordPress’s own query API, so nothing the plugin does goes near the database as assembled text. * Nonce verification is now written explicitly in every AJAX handler rather than only inside a shared helper, so each endpoint can be audited on sight. * Remaining form inputs are unslashed and sanitized at the point they are read. #### 2.9.5 * New: a Content gaps panel on the Keywords screen, listing every keyword no page owns — post ideas, in other words. Each one shows the closest existing page, and a Check coverage button that searches your content and tells you whether anything already mentions the phrase, so you can see at a glance whether to write something new or simply assign an existing post. #### 2.9.4 * Fixed the Keywords screen hanging the browser. Each keyword row was rendering a dropdown containing every page on the site, so a site with 120 keywords and 300 pages built over 36,000 dropdown entries. Each row now shows only its current value and loads the full list when you open it. #### 2.9.3 * Code quality pass against the official WordPress Plugin Check tool, in preparation for directory submission. * Security: the bulk-run query now uses fully prepared statements with bound parameters. * All admin output is escaped at the point of output, and every form input is unslashed and sanitized. * Removed set_time_limit() calls — the batching and time-budget system introduced in 2.8.1 makes them unnecessary. * Marked “Tested up to” the current WordPress version. #### 2.9.2 * Fixed the “crowded page” warning, which fired far too often. Different wordings of the same thing — “design agency dublin”, “design agency in dublin”, “dublin design agencies” — are now recognised as one topic instead of three keywords, so a page is only flagged when it is genuinely targeting several different subjects. * Replaced the per-row warning badge with a “Pages targeting several topics” panel that names the page, groups its keywords by topic, and shows the variants, so you can see at a glance whether it needs splitting or is perfectly fine. #### 2.9.1 * Added a “Remove all keywords” button, with a confirmation step. Clearing keywords only stops them influencing future suggestions — links already placed in your posts are never touched. #### 2.9.0 * New: Target Keywords. Keep a list of the phrases each page should own, and LinkWise suggests that page whenever the phrase appears elsewhere on your site — using the phrase itself as the anchor text. * New: pull keywords from any URL, including a competitor’s page. LinkWise reads the page and extracts the phrases it is built around, weighted by whether they appear in the title, headings, image alt text or body. Results come as a checklist with select-all and bulk import; nothing is stored until you choose it. * Keywords with no assigned page are flagged as content gaps, and pages claiming a lot of keywords are flagged so each page keeps a clear focus. * Keyword extraction works without an API key. Pro adds AI ranking, which keeps only the phrases that matter commercially for your business and suggests which of your pages should own each one. #### 2.8.4 * Broken-link repair now builds its work list once at the start of a run instead of re-reading — and rewriting — the whole site report before every batch. This was the last operation still doing that, and it was the heaviest part of a large repair job. #### 2.8.3 * Exclusion boxes now show exactly what each line matched — the page title and ID, or a clear “no page found” if it matched nothing. These fields used to fail silently, which made a mistyped path look like a broken feature. * Saving settings now clears the cached reports, so an exclusion takes effect immediately instead of waiting for the cache to expire. #### 2.8.2 * Fixed: pages listed in “Posts/pages to ignore” were only recognised when written as a full URL. You can now enter a path (/sitemap), a slug (sitemap), a full URL, or a post ID — all work. * Fixed: Fix Orphans ignored your exclusion list and still offered to link excluded pages. * Fixed: post titles containing & showed as “&” in the Auto-Link Run results. #### 2.8.1 Resource safety release — no new features, but bulk jobs are far kinder to your server. * Fixed the main cause of high CPU and memory: bulk jobs were re-reading( and sometimes rebuilding) the whole site’s link report before every small batch of edits. The work list is now built once at the start of a run, so a job on a large site does a few megabytes of database work instead of hundreds. * Link density trimming no longer rewrites the whole cached report after every batch. * Bulk edits now write directly to the database instead of triggering a full post save on every page. Your SEO, cache and social plugins no longer fire hundreds of times during a run, which was the main cause of high CPU and memory use. * Batch size is chosen automatically to suit your hosting — nothing to configure. * LinkWise rests between batches so it can never take over a shared server, and stops cleanly if it runs low on memory or time. * Only one LinkWise job runs at a time; a second tab or a double-click can no longer stack jobs. Interrupted jobs resume where they left off. * When the server is busy, LinkWise waits progressively longer instead of retrying every 10 seconds, and pauses rather than piling on. * Closing the browser tab now ends the work instead of leaving it running. * Bulk edits no longer create post revisions, so the database stays lean. For developers: each batch fires a single `gbl_bulk_content_updated` action with the affected post IDs instead of per-post save hooks. Direct database writes can be disabled with `add_filter( 'gbl_use_direct_write', '__return_false' );` if your site depends on save_post firing.
