## Description

**Globe Boss Detect** scans your WordPress site for SEO metadata problems that quietly
drag down your rankings — duplicate titles, missing descriptions, and leftover data
from SEO plugins you no longer use.

#### What it detects (free)

 * **Duplicate SEO titles** — two or more pages sharing the same title tag
 * **Duplicate meta descriptions** — the same description on multiple indexable
   pages
 * **Duplicate page titles** — identical native WordPress post titles, separate
   from SEO title overrides
 * **Missing SEO titles** — pages with no title set
 * **Missing meta descriptions** — pages with no description set
 * **Cross-plugin conflicts** — posts where two SEO plugins both hold metadata,
so which one renders is unpredictable
 * **Ghost metadata** — leftover data from an SEO plugin that is no longer active,
commonly left behind after switching from one SEO plugin to another

Most duplicate checkers read only the SEO plugin currently active. Globe Boss Detect
reads them all at once, which is how it finds conflicts and ghost data that other
tools cannot see.

#### Built to avoid false positives

A duplicate is only worth reporting if it actually hurts you. Globe Boss Detect
skips noindex pages, attachment pages, and the posts page and static front page
set under Settings > Reading, since those hold no metadata of their own. It can
strip your site name from titles before comparing so templated branding does not
read as duplication, and you can exclude specific post IDs where similarity is intentional.

#### Works with your SEO plugin

Globe Boss Detect reads metadata from:

 * **Yoast SEO** (including title template resolution)
 * **Rank Math**
 * **All in One SEO (AIOSEO)**
 * **The SEO Framework**
 * **SEOPress**

Page title detection works with no SEO plugin at all. Every issue shows which plugin
the value came from, so you always know what you are looking at.

#### Smart scanning

The scanner is chunked and runs in the background, so it never times out on large
sites. You can navigate away during a scan and come back when it is done.

#### Free vs Pro

The free plugin is genuinely useful and not limited trialware. Pro adds AI-powered
analysis on top:

 * **Semantic duplicate detection** — finds pages with different titles that target
   the same intent
 * **AI rewrite suggestions** — unique title and description alternatives generated
   per page
 * **AI issue prioritisation** — ranked explanations of which issues matter most
   for your rankings
 * **Bulk AI fix** — select affected pages, review suggested replacements, and write
them straight back to your SEO plugin
 * **Scheduled scans** and email reports
 * **Agency tier** (coming soon)

AI features require the Globe Boss Detect Pro add-on and WordPress 7.0 or later,
which provides the built-in AI Client. You choose your AI provider under Settings
> Connectors and WordPress manages the credentials. Metadata is sent only with your
explicit consent (opt-in toggle in Settings). No user data, personal information,
or post content is transmitted — only SEO titles and descriptions.

#### Privacy

The free version performs all analysis locally on your server. No data leaves your
site.

Pro users who enable AI analysis consent explicitly before any data is sent, and
the request is routed by WordPress to the provider they configured. See the Settings
screen for full details.

#### Development

Globe Boss Detect is built and maintained by [Globe Boss](https://globeboss.com),
a Dublin-based SEO and digital marketing agency.

### External Services

Globe Boss Detect does not contact any third-party service directly and does not
store any API credentials.

All scanning and duplicate detection runs locally on your own server. Nothing leaves
your site for this.

The optional AI features in the Pro add-on use the WordPress AI Client built into
WordPress 7.0 and later. WordPress routes the request to whichever AI provider you,
the site owner, have configured under Settings > Connectors. Globe Boss Detect never
chooses a provider, never contacts one directly, and never sees or stores your API
keys.

What is sent when you run AI analysis:
Only the SEO titles and meta descriptions
gathered by your scan. No post content, no user data, no personal information, and
no credentials.

When it is sent:
Only when all of these are true: you have the Pro add-on active,
your WordPress install provides the AI Client, you have enabled AI features in Settings,
you have ticked the consent checkbox in Settings, and you manually start an AI analysis.

Because the provider is your choice, the applicable terms and privacy policy are
those of the provider you configure in Settings > Connectors.

If you do not install Pro, do not enable AI features, or do not give consent, no
data ever leaves your server.

## FAQ

### Does this plugin fix the issues automatically?

No. Globe Boss Detect is a detection and reporting tool. It shows you the problems
so you (or your SEO team) can fix them in your SEO plugin of choice. Pro adds AI-
generated suggestions to make fixing faster.

### Will it work if I don’t have an SEO plugin installed?

Yes, but with reduced scope. Without an SEO plugin it can still detect duplicate
and missing page titles using the native WordPress post title. SEO title and meta
description detection needs Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO, or The SEO Framework,
because those fields only exist when one of those plugins stores them.

### Why does a page show as “missing description” when it looks fine on the front end?

Because no SEO plugin has a meta description saved for it. Some themes and SEO plugins
generate a description on the fly from the excerpt or content without saving one.
Globe Boss Detect reports the saved value, since that is the only value you control
and the only one that stays stable. Auto-generated fallbacks are deliberately not
treated as real descriptions, as they would otherwise produce misleading duplicate
reports.

### Does it detect issues on noindex pages?

The scanner records noindex status for every page, but noindex pages are excluded
from duplicate grouping. A duplicate title on a page search engines are told to
ignore is not a ranking problem, so reporting it would just be noise.

### Can I stop it flagging pages where duplication is intentional?

Yes. Settings has an “Exclude Specific Posts” field where you can list post IDs
to skip. The WordPress posts page and static front page are always skipped automatically,
since they render dynamically and hold no metadata of their own.

### What happens to my data if I uninstall the plugin?

By default, your scan data is kept unless you check “Delete Data on Uninstall” in
Settings before deleting. This prevents accidental data loss.

### Is the AI analysis mandatory?

No. AI features are entirely optional, live in the separate Pro add-on, and require
WordPress 7.0 or later plus your explicit consent. The free version never sends
any data to any external service.

## Changelog

#### 2.1.3

 * Internal: ghost-metadata cleanup queries each meta key individually with a single
   bound placeholder. No functional change.

#### 2.1.2

 * Internal: ghost-metadata cleanup now targets exact meta keys via a bound IN()
list rather than LIKE patterns. Resolves the remaining static-analysis notices
and makes the cleanup query faster. No functional change.

#### 2.1.1

 * Internal: rewrote the ghost-metadata database queries to use fully bound placeholders,
resolving static-analysis warnings. No functional change.

#### 2.1.0

 * Added a “Clean ghost metadata” tool in Scan Manager. When leftover SEO metadata
from a plugin you no longer use is found, one click removes it. The metadata
of your active SEO plugin is never touched, and a database backup of everything
removed is saved first so the action can be reversed.

#### 2.0.2

 * Renamed internal function, constant, option, hook, and handle prefixes to a longer,
more unique prefix to prevent naming collisions with other plugins.

#### 2.0.1

 * Fixed a serious bug where every post after the first in a scan was recorded with
the first post’s title and description, producing large numbers of false duplicate
and missing reports. Metadata is now read per post directly from the active SEO
plugin’s stored values (Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO, SEOPress, The SEO Framework),
with a WordPress-core title fallback when no plugin value exists.

#### 2.0.0

 * Major change: the scanner now reads the SEO title and meta description each page
actually renders, instead of reading meta keys for specific SEO plugins. It works
with any SEO plugin — Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO, The SEO Framework, SEOPress,
or any other — and with none. This removes the false “missing” reports on sites
whose SEO plugin was not previously recognised.
 * No HTTP requests are made during scanning; the page head is rendered in-process,
so there is no loopback load on the server.
 * Added a Maintenance section to Scan Manager: cancel a running scan, clear scans
stuck for over 15 minutes, and clear all stored scan data to start fresh.
 * Scans stuck in “running” are now automatically failed after 15 minutes.

#### 1.3.0

 * Added SEOPress support — titles and descriptions from SEOPress are now read correctly,
fixing false “missing description” reports on sites using it
 * Added a full issue detail view — the Details button now opens a page listing
every affected post with edit and view links
 * The “+N more” affected-pages link now opens the same detail view instead of being
   static text
 * Posts with an empty title now display as “(no title)” with their ID instead of
   a bare post number

#### 1.2.3

 * Updated the Pro overview screen with current pricing and working purchase links
 * Corrected the Pro feature list to distinguish features that ship at launch from
   those still in development
 * Removed an outdated note about AI usage billing that no longer matched how the
   plugin works

#### 1.2.2

 * Table names are no longer passed through local variables into SQL, resolving
static analysis warnings on the page title duplicate query and the uninstall
   routine

#### 1.2.1

 * Page title duplicate detection now joins to the scan results table instead of
building a dynamic IN clause, so the query uses a single prepared placeholder
 * Scan post counting no longer uses post__not_in, improving performance on large
   sites
 * AI Client calls are routed through a single guarded factory so the plugin stays
compatible with WordPress 6.0 while using the 7.0 AI Client when present
 * Tightened input sanitisation on the bulk dismiss action
 * Page title duplicates now skip noindex pages, matching the other detection types

#### 1.2.0

 * AI features now use the WordPress AI Client built into WordPress 7.0 instead
of contacting an AI provider directly
 * Removed all API key storage and handling — credentials are managed by WordPress
   under Settings > Connectors
 * Moved all admin JavaScript out of templates and into a properly enqueued script
   file
 * Hardened input sanitisation on the bulk issue action, the CSV export request,
   and AJAX nonce verification
 * Added an “Exclude Specific Posts” setting and a gbd_excluded_post_ids filter
for pages where duplication is intentional
 * Attachment post types are no longer offered as scan targets
 * Scan progress now accounts for excluded posts, so it reaches 100 percent correctly
 * Removed unreachable uninstall code that shadowed uninstall.php

#### 1.1.1

 * Fixed false positive: WordPress posts page and static front page now excluded
   from scans
 * Fixed false positive: pages with no custom SEO description set no longer grouped
   as duplicate descriptions
 * Fixed false positive: native WordPress excerpt/content fallback no longer treated
as a meta description for duplicate detection purposes

#### 1.1.0

 * Added cross-plugin conflict detection — flags posts where Yoast, Rank Math, AIOSEO,
and The SEO Framework all have metadata set simultaneously
 * Added ghost metadata detection — finds leftover SEO data from plugins that have
   been switched out or deactivated
 * Added duplicate page title detection — catches identical native WordPress post
   titles across multiple posts
 * Dashboard now shows Plugin Conflicts & Ghost Data count and Duplicate Page Titles
   count
 * Issues table now includes Cross-Plugin Conflict, Ghost Metadata, and Duplicate
   Page Title issue types

#### 1.0.0

 * Initial release
 * Exact duplicate title and description detection
 * Missing metadata detection
 * Yoast SEO, Rank Math, AIOSEO, The SEO Framework adapters
 * Chunked background scanning
 * Issues table with filters and bulk dismiss
 * CSV export
 * Pro upgrade path (AI features require Pro licence)
