Picture finder


This plugin was developed for the Politics InSpires ( project at the University of Oxford.

The project was JISC Funded, and sits as part of “Open Spires” (ttp:// Open Spires is a project led by the Learning Technologies Group, Oxford University Computing Services, University of Oxford.

In terms of long term support, the code is being maintained by the Open Attribute team (

The plugin allows for a user to simply search Flickr for content, and then for the user to simply add attribution to the picture before adding it into their post. By using CC-BY licenses this tool is built to limit the potential copyright pitfalls that may occur.

A more powerful sister plug in is available which searches for more than just CC-BY.

  • Look for the trident symbol at the end of the "insert media" toolbar
  • This Screen will appear
  • Type in your search term here
  • If you don't find what you want you can search again
  • Pictures are brought back from flickr which match your request. Click on "choose" for the picture you like
  • The picture is brought back, and added to the media library
  • The picture is attributed
  • You can now either insert the picture into the post, or set it as the featured image.


  1. Upload plugin-name.php to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
