## Description

Extended Schema Types for SEO expands the structured data workflow of WordPress
sites that use Yoast SEO.

Yoast SEO already creates a strong JSON-LD graph for WordPress content. This plugin
builds on that foundation by adding a much broader set of Schema.org types to the
native Yoast SEO Schema controls, without replacing the Yoast SEO graph and without
forcing editors to manage a separate schema selector.

The goal is simple: give publishers, agencies, developers, ecommerce teams, course
platforms, directories, software companies, local businesses, newsrooms, and institutional
websites more precise Schema.org options inside the editorial workflow they already
use.

Important disclaimer: Extended Schema Types for SEO is an independent add-on designed
to work with Yoast SEO. It is not developed, maintained, sponsored, endorsed, or
affiliated with Yoast BV, Team Yoast, or the Yoast SEO plugin team. Yoast and Yoast
SEO are trademarks of their respective owners.

#### What the plugin does

 * Extends the native Yoast SEO Schema selectors.
 * Adds hundreds of Schema.org types using canonical Schema.org names such as `NewsArticle`,`
   HowTo`, `WebApplication`, `Product`, `VideoObject`, `LocalBusiness`, `FAQPage`,
   and `AnalysisNewsArticle`.
 * Keeps additional structured data connected to the Yoast SEO JSON-LD graph.
 * Shows extra fields only when the selected Schema.org type needs information that
   cannot be reliably inferred from WordPress or Yoast SEO.
 * Separates required fields from optional fields for practical schema models.
 * Infers common data such as title, description, URL, featured image, author, publisher,
   publication date, site organization, and site URL whenever possible.
 * Preserves the regular Yoast SEO Schema tab experience for editors.

#### Why this matters

Many websites publish content that is more specific than the default structured
data options available in a typical SEO setup. A page may describe a course, software
application, event, book, dataset, product, local business, service, recipe, job
posting, podcast, video, legal document, technical reference, how-to guide, FAQ
page, or specialized news article.

This plugin helps you represent that content more accurately while continuing to
use Yoast SEO as the main structured data engine.

#### How it works

The plugin extends the Schema controls shown by Yoast SEO in the post editor. Editors
continue selecting schema from the native Schema tab.

When the chosen Schema.org type needs additional non-inferable information, a compact
field group appears below the native Yoast SEO Schema selectors. The fields are
grouped as required and optional so editors can complete the most important information
first.

For schema types that can rely mainly on WordPress and Yoast SEO data, the plugin
avoids unnecessary fields and may expose only safe generic properties such as `identifier`,`
alternateName`, `sameAs`, `additionalType`, and `disambiguatingDescription`.

#### Schema selection

The plugin extends the following Yoast SEO controls:

 * Page type: native Yoast SEO choices are preserved and expanded with additional
   compatible options such as `MediaGallery`, `ImageGallery`, and `VideoGallery`.
 * Article type: native Yoast SEO choices are preserved and expanded with Article
   and NewsArticle descendants such as `NewsArticle`, `AnalysisNewsArticle`, `AskPublicNewsArticle`,`
   BackgroundNewsArticle`, `OpinionNewsArticle`, `ReportageNewsArticle`, `ReviewNewsArticle`,`
   APIReference`, `DiscussionForumPosting`, `LiveBlogPosting`, and `MedicalScholarlyArticle`.
 * Additional graph-piece types: hundreds of Schema.org types can be selected and
   emitted as pieces connected to the Yoast SEO graph.

#### Practical schema coverage

The plugin includes support for a wide range of Schema.org models, including:

 * Article and NewsArticle descendants.
 * `HowTo`, `FAQPage`, `Recipe`, `Review`, and `ClaimReview`.
 * `Event` and Event subtypes such as `BusinessEvent`, `ChildrensEvent`, `ComedyEvent`,`
   ConferenceEvent`, `CourseInstance`, `DanceEvent`, `DeliveryEvent`, `EducationEvent`,`
   ExhibitionEvent`, `Festival`, `FoodEvent`, `Hackathon`, `LiteraryEvent`, `MusicEvent`,`
   PublicationEvent`, `SaleEvent`, `ScreeningEvent`, `SocialEvent`, `SportsEvent`,`
   TheaterEvent`, `UserInteraction`, and `VisualArtsEvent`.
 * `SoftwareApplication`, `WebApplication`, `MobileApplication`, `OperatingSystem`,`
   RuntimePlatform`, `VideoGame`, and `SoftwareSourceCode`.
 * `Product`, `IndividualProduct`, `ProductCollection`, `ProductGroup`, `ProductModel`,`
   SomeProducts`, and `Vehicle`.
 * `VideoObject`, `AudioObject`, `ImageObject`, `Movie`, `TVSeries`, `TVEpisode`,`
   PodcastSeries`, `PodcastEpisode`, `MusicAlbum`, `MusicPlaylist`, and `MusicRecording`.
 * `Organization`, `LocalBusiness`, `Store`, `Restaurant`, `Hotel`, `MedicalBusiness`,`
   ProfessionalService`, `LegalService`, `RealEstateAgent`, `AutomotiveBusiness`,`
   EntertainmentBusiness`, `FoodEstablishment`, `GovernmentOffice`, `LodgingBusiness`,`
   SportsActivityLocation`, and `TravelAgency`.
 * `Course`, `EducationalOccupationalCredential`, `EducationalOccupationalProgram`,`
   JobPosting`, `Occupation`, `Person`, `Book`, `Audiobook`, `Dataset`, `DataCatalog`,`
   DefinedTerm`, `DefinedTermSet`, `Grant`, `FundingScheme`, `Legislation`, `SpecialAnnouncement`,`
   DigitalDocument`, `NoteDigitalDocument`, `PresentationDigitalDocument`, `SpreadsheetDigitalDocument`,`
   TextDigitalDocument`, and `Thesis`.

#### Output model

Extended Schema Types for SEO does not replace the structured data output created
by Yoast SEO. It adds connected Schema.org graph pieces and links them to the WebPage
node generated by Yoast SEO where possible.

This helps avoid disconnected JSON-LD blocks and keeps the structured data model
easier to maintain.

#### Privacy

This plugin does not send data to external services. It works inside WordPress and
extends the structured data generated on the site.

#### Important note about rich results

Schema.org markup can help search engines understand a page, but it does not guarantee
rich results. Rich result eligibility depends on search engine documentation, required
properties, content policies, page quality, and many other factors outside this
plugin.

## FAQ

### Is this plugin made by Yoast?

No. Extended Schema Types for SEO is an independent add-on designed to work with
Yoast SEO. It is not developed, maintained, sponsored, endorsed, or affiliated with
Yoast BV, Team Yoast, or the Yoast SEO plugin team.

### Does this plugin require Yoast SEO?

Yes. This plugin is an extension for the Yoast SEO structured data workflow and
requires the `wordpress-seo` plugin.

### Does this replace Yoast SEO schema output?

No. It extends the Yoast SEO graph and connects additional Schema.org graph pieces
to the Yoast SEO WebPage node.

### Does it add a separate Schema selector?

No. The plugin extends the native Yoast SEO Schema selectors. Additional fields
appear below those selectors only when the selected Schema.org type needs data that
cannot be reliably inferred.

### Are Schema.org type names translated?

No. Schema.org class and property names are displayed as exact canonical names,
such as `WebApplication`, `NewsArticle`, `HowTo`, `JobPosting`, `startDate`, `validThrough`,
and `applicationCategory`.

### Is NewsArticle included?

Yes. `NewsArticle` is explicitly added to the Article type selector, together with
practical NewsArticle descendants such as `AnalysisNewsArticle`, `AskPublicNewsArticle`,`
BackgroundNewsArticle`, `OpinionNewsArticle`, `ReportageNewsArticle`, and `ReviewNewsArticle`.

### Is HowTo included?

Yes. `HowTo` is available as a Schema.org type and includes dedicated fields for
steps, supplies, and tools.

### Where are the additional fields shown?

They are shown inside the Yoast SEO Schema tab, below the native Yoast SEO Schema
selectors.

### Why do some schema types show only generic fields?

Some Schema.org types can be valid with data inferred from WordPress and Yoast SEO,
while others need highly context-specific properties. For those types, the plugin
exposes generic Thing-level fields first instead of forcing irrelevant fields.

### Does this guarantee Google rich results?

No. It outputs Schema.org JSON-LD through the Yoast SEO graph. Rich result eligibility
depends on search engine rules, required properties, content policies, and page
quality.

### Does this plugin call external services?

No. It does not make external service calls.
