Google reports that people are twice as likely to click through to a site after marking it that way. This plugin puts that button on your site and gives you full control over where it appears and how it looks. #### Three ways to integrate 1. **Deeplink** (default) — a plain link to Google’s source preferences tool. No script from Google, no third-party connection, about one kilobyte in total. 2. **Two-click** — your own button. Google’s library is fetched only after a visitor clicks, so the third-party request follows a deliberate action. 3. **Google’s official widget** — the integration Google recommends, with an automatically translated button. Convenient, but it loads roughly 250 KB of JavaScript from news. google.com on every page view, and that script sets cookies and local storage. The default is the deeplink, so the plugin adds no third-party requests until you decide otherwise. #### Display rules * Automatic placement before, after or inside the content, or as a floating bar * Insert after a chosen paragraph * Per content type: posts, pages, custom post types * Per view: single views, front page, blog index, category, tag and taxonomy archives, author and date archives, search results, 404 * Include or exclude individual posts by ID * Include or exclude categories, tags and custom taxonomy terms * Only on posts newer than a given number of days * Only for logged-out visitors, or hidden from chosen roles #### Design Colour scheme (light, dark, follow the system, or your own colours), icon and icon position, corner radius, border, font size and weight, padding, spacing, shadow, full width, alignment and extra CSS classes — with a live preview next to the fields. This is Google’s official library for the preferred sources button. Loading it transmits the visitor’s IP address, user agent and referrer to Google, and the script sets cookies and browser storage of its own. * Google Terms of Service: https://policies.google.com/terms * Google Privacy Policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy In **deeplink** mode, which is the default, no script or asset is loaded from Google. The button is then an ordinary link, and nothing is sent anywhere until a visitor clicks it. Install and activate the plugin. 2. Go to Settings Preferred Sources. 3. Check the domain and pick an integration mode. 4. Set the display rules and the design, then place the button through the block, the shortcode or automatic placement. ## FAQ ### Which integration should I choose? For an audience in the EU the deeplink is the simplest: no third-party connection, no consent needed, no loading weight. The two-click mode gives you Google’s nicer dialog while still waiting for a deliberate click. The official widget offers the smoothest flow but belongs behind a consent banner. ### Does the plugin send any data? No. The plugin has no server of its own and no telemetry. In two-click and widget mode Google’s library is loaded from news.google.com, and Google then learns the visitor’s IP address. That is described under Third-party services above. ### Can I use Google’s official button artwork? Yes. Google offers button images in 51 languages. Download the archive, unzip it, upload the image you need to your media library and choose the image variant in the design settings. Note that the archive contains images, not a plugin, so it does not go through Plugins > Add New. The plugin deliberately does not imitate Google’s artwork. ### Does it work with caching plugins? Yes. The output is static and contains nothing visitor specific. The optional local click counter uses a small REST request, which caching does not affect. ### How accurate is the local click counter? Treat it as an orientation figure. It counts clicks on the button per day and nothing else, without cookies or visitor identifiers, and it is rate limited rather than audit proof. For exact figures use the dataLayer or gtag event with your existing analytics. ### Where do I find the shortcode attributes? [preferred_source mode=”deeplink” style=”button” theme=”dark” icon=”star” align=” center” label=”Add us on Google”]. Every attribute is optional and falls back to the settings.
