## Description

Affiliate Box for Amazon puts a clean, responsive product box anywhere on your site.
You build a box once on the **Product Boxes** screen and paste one short line into
a post — `[affiliate_box box="a7f3k2c9"]`. The box shows the product image, title,
price, star rating and a clearly labelled affiliate link.

Because the product lives in one place rather than in the post text, the same box
can appear in twenty posts and still be changed once. That is also what makes it
possible to keep the price honest: a price written into a post is a price nobody
ever revisits.

Connect your Amazon Creators API credential and the plugin fills the box for you:
paste an ASIN, press **Fetch from Amazon**, and title, image, price and rating arrive
from Amazon. Without a credential everything still works — you type the values yourself.

The plugin is built for Amazon Associates. You enter a separate Associates Tracking
ID for each marketplace you are enrolled in, point a box at any store with the `
marketplace` attribute, and the right ID is appended to every outbound link — falling
back to the marketplace you nominate whenever a target store has none of its own.

#### What you get

 * **Product Boxes** — search Amazon or paste an ASIN, and the fields fill themselves.
   Save the box, copy its one-line shortcode, and change the price in one place
   for every page that shows it.
 * **Amazon API** — the Creators API fills title, image and price from an ASIN or
   a keyword search. One credential per region, stored encrypted.
 * **Marketplaces** — one Associates Tracking ID per store, with a warning when
   an ID does not match the store it is filed under.
 * **A block and a widget** — add **Affiliate Box** in the editor and pick your
   box from a list; the real box appears while you choose. For sidebars there is
   a widget as well, defaulting to the narrow layout.

#### Features

 * **A block for the editor** — no key to copy and nothing to type. The `[affiliate_box]`
   shortcode still works everywhere it always did: the classic editor, Elementor,
   and the shortcode or text widget of every common page builder.
 * Every active Amazon Associates marketplace (22 stores): US, CA, MX, BR, UK, IE,
   DE, FR, IT, ES, NL, BE, SE, PL, TR, AE, SA, EG, IN, SG, JP, AU.
 * Per-marketplace ASINs, images and titles — the same product usually carries a
   different ASIN in each store.
 * Star ratings and review counts, typed in by you. Amazon accepts a request for
   them and answers without them, so no plugin can fill these reliably – see the
   FAQ.
 * Guaranteed fallback: a marketplace with no Tracking ID of its own borrows the
   one from your **fallback marketplace** — which store that is, you choose. Start
   on amazon.in alone and add the United States later without disturbing anything.
 * **Five layouts**, each named with the size it takes: **In post (640 px)**, **
   Sidebar (400 px)**, **Compact (640 × 78 px)** — a single line for naming a product
   without cutting the paragraph in half — **Button only (auto × 38 px)**, just
   the call to action for after a paragraph that already named the product, and **
   Hero (960 px)**, wide with a bigger picture and a line in small capitals above
   the name for the pick at the top of a review.
 * Three image sizes, colour pickers for button, background and title, customisable
   button text.
 * Built-in FTC affiliate disclosure, on by default.
 * Outbound links carry `rel="nofollow noopener sponsored"`.
 * The stylesheet loads only on pages that use the shortcode.
 * Fully responsive, respects `prefers-reduced-motion`, keyboard focus visible throughout.
 * Fully translatable (text domain `doozly-affiliate-box-for-amazon`).

#### Shortcode reference

Every attribute is optional, but a useful box needs at least `asin` (or `url`) plus`
title` and `image`. Anything left empty falls back to the value set under **Settings
Affiliate Box**.

In almost every case you want the short form: `[affiliate_box box="a7f3k2c9"]` shows
a box you built on the **Product Boxes** screen, and the Shortcode column there
hands you the finished line. The attributes below let a post carry the product data
itself instead; they are still read, so older posts keep working, but nothing needs
writing by hand any more.

With `box` set, the product details always come from the saved box. Only `layout`,`
image_size`, `bg_color` and `button_text` can be overridden per post — otherwise
the price in a post would go stale again, which is the problem the saved box solves.

 Attribute
 Values Default Description

 `box`
 Key of a saved box, e.g. `a7f3k2c9` _(empty)_ Shows a box built on the **
Product Boxes** screen. With this set, every product detail comes from the saved
box and only `layout`, `image_size`, `bg_color` and `button_text` are read from
the shortcode. The Shortcode column on that screen hands you the finished line.

 `asin`
 Amazon ASIN, e.g. `B08N5WRWNW` _(empty)_ Product ID. The link is built
as `https://<marketplace>/dp/<asin>?tag=<your-id>`.

 `url`
 Full Amazon URL _(empty)_ Use instead of `asin` for search pages or non-
standard links. Your Tracking ID is appended unless the URL already carries one.

 `title`
 Plain text _(empty)_ Product title, also used as the image `alt`.

 `image`
 Image URL _(empty)_ Product image. Use your own copy or a permitted Amazon
image URL.

 `price`
 Plain text, e.g. `$19.99` _(empty)_ Displayed price. Type it, or let the
Amazon API fill it.

 `original_price`
 Plain text _(empty)_ Crossed-out former price. Shown only together
with `savings_pct`.

 `savings_pct`
 Number, e.g. `25` _(empty)_ Discount badge, in percent.

 `rating`
 `0`–`5`, e.g. `4.5` _(empty)_ Star rating above the price. Empty means
no stars.

 `rating_count`
 Number _(empty)_ Review count shown next to the stars.

 `brand`
 Plain text _(empty)_ Brand line above the title.

 `button_text`
 Plain text Settings value, or “Buy on Amazon” Text on the call-to-
action button.

 `layout`
 `post`, `sidebar`, `compact`, `hero` Settings default `post` 640px horizontal.`
sidebar` 400px, stacked and centred. `compact` a single 640 × 78px line. `hero`
960px with a bigger picture.

 `eyebrow`
 plain text _(empty)_ A short line in small capitals above the product
name — `Our pick`. Shares a line with the brand when both are filled in; `compact`
leaves it out.

 `image_size`
 `small`, `medium`, `large` `medium` 90px / 140px / 200px on desktop;
scales down on mobile.

 `bg_color`
 Hex colour, e.g. `#f7f7f7` Settings value Box background, this box
only.

 `marketplace`
 Marketplace key, e.g. `de` Settings default Which Amazon store the
link points to.

 `asin_de`, `image_de`, `title_de`, `price_de`, …
 Per store _(empty)_ Store-specific
values. The one matching the box’s marketplace wins over the plain attribute.

#### Examples

In-post box:

    ```
    [affiliate_box asin="B08N5WRWNW" title="Echo Dot (4th Gen)" image="https://example.com/echo-dot.jpg" price="$29.99" rating="4.5" rating_count="1204"]
    ```

Sidebar widget:

    ```
    [affiliate_box asin="B08N5WRWNW" title="Echo Dot (4th Gen)" image="https://example.com/echo-dot.jpg" price="$29.99" layout="sidebar"]
    ```

A saved box, price kept in one place — the usual way:

    ```
    [affiliate_box box="a7f3k2c9"]
    ```

German store, large image, discount badge:

    ```
    [affiliate_box asin="B08N5WRWNW" title="Echo Dot (4. Generation)" image="https://example.com/echo-dot.jpg" price="29,99 €" original_price="39,99 €" savings_pct="25" marketplace="de" image_size="large"]
    ```

A search result page instead of a product:

    ```
    [affiliate_box url="https://www.amazon.com/s?k=smart+speaker" title="Smart speakers" image="https://example.com/speakers.jpg" button_text="Browse on Amazon"]
    ```

#### Premium version

A Premium version is available at [doozly.link](https://doozly.link/affiliate-box-for-amazon/#pricing).
It adds bestseller lists, comparison tables, review boxes carrying your own photo
and score, IP-based geotargeting — every affiliate link rewritten to the Amazon
store closest to the visitor — rotation, which shows a different one of your saved
boxes at the same spot each day, reports on how often each box was seen and clicked,
and a nightly refresh that keeps saved prices current. This free plugin is complete
on its own and never asks for a licence key. Each of these features has a tab in
it as a preview, saying what the feature does — nothing in the free plugin is locked,
because the code for them is not part of it.

#### Product images

The plugin stores an image address and renders it. It cannot tell where that address
came from, and it does not try to.

Pressing **Fetch from Amazon** or picking a search result fills the field from the
Amazon Creators API, which is the path Amazon’s Associates Operating Agreement intends
for product images. You can also type an address yourself — the field accepts any
URL, because a product box is often built before a credential exists, or from your
own photography.

Which images you are entitled to display is between you and Amazon. The Associates
Operating Agreement limits it, that agreement is between Amazon and you as the account
holder, and the plugin is not a party to it. Anything you enter is published on
your site under your responsibility.

#### Disclaimer

Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
This plugin is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or
sponsored by Amazon.

### External services

This plugin connects to the **Amazon Creators API** to fetch product data — title,
image, price, and where Amazon supplies them the star rating and review count —
for an ASIN or a keyword search you enter in the admin. This happens only when you
press **Fetch from Amazon** or **Search**, and only after you have entered your
own Amazon credential. Without a credential the plugin makes no external request
at all.

What is sent: the ASIN or search term you typed, the marketplace you selected, your
Associates Tracking ID, and your credential, which Amazon needs to authorise the
call. No visitor data and no data about your site is sent, and nothing is sent when
a page is viewed on the front end — the box renders from values already stored on
your server.

The API is provided by Amazon.com, Inc. Endpoints: `https://creatorsapi.amazon`
for product data, and `https://api.amazon.com`, `https://api.amazon.co.uk` or `https://
api.amazon.co.jp` to obtain an access token for your region. Terms of service: [Amazon Associates Programme Operating Agreement](https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/help/operating/agreement).
Privacy policy: [Amazon Privacy Notice](https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468496).

The plugin connects to no other service and sends nothing to the plugin author.

One clarification, so nothing here reads as hidden. The **Geotargeting** tab in
this plugin is a preview of a Premium feature. That feature asks your own server
for the visitor’s country first and, only where the server cannot say and you leave
the lookup switched on, a free IP-to-country service (`api.bigdatacloud.net`, failing
over to `ipwho.is`). It belongs to the Premium version, which is a separate plugin:
this plugin contains no code that contacts those services, and nothing on the preview
makes a request.

## Installation

 1. Upload the `doozly-affiliate-box-for-amazon` folder to `/wp-content/plugins/`,
    or install through the WordPress Plugins screen.
 2. Activate the plugin through the **Plugins** screen.
 3. Go to **Settings Affiliate Box Marketplaces** and enter your Amazon Associates
    Tracking ID for every marketplace you are enrolled in. On the General tab, pick
    which of them stands in for the stores you leave empty.
 4. Optional: under **Amazon API**, enter a Creators API credential from Associates
    Central so boxes fill themselves.
 5. Build a box under **Product Box** and paste the shortcode into any post, page or
    widget.

## FAQ

### Does this plugin require an Amazon API credential?

No. Without one you type the title, image and price yourself and the plugin builds
the link from the ASIN and your Tracking ID. A credential only saves you the typing.

### Where do I get a Creators API credential?

In Amazon Associates Central under **Tools Creators API**. Amazon issues one credential
per region — North America, Europe, Far East — and a credential does not work outside
its own region, so enter one for each region you sell in. The old Product Advertising
API keys no longer work; Amazon shut that API down.

### Why are the star rating and the review count not filled in for me?

Because Amazon does not send them. The API accepts a request for `customerReviews.
starRating` and `customerReviews.count` and then answers without them — the block
is absent from the response altogether. It is a long-standing gap that affects every
plugin working through this API; it is not your credential, and not this plugin.

So those two fields are yours to fill: type the rating and the number of reviews
from the product page. They are the one part of a box that does not keep itself
current, so it is worth checking them now and then.

The plugin keeps asking for both on every request. It costs nothing extra, and if
Amazon ever starts answering, they fill themselves from that day on. To see what
your own account gets back, press **Fetch from Amazon** and read **Last raw API
response** at the foot of the Amazon API tab.

### Does this plugin include geotargeting?

No. Each box points at whichever store you choose with the `marketplace` attribute,
with the matching Tracking ID appended. Automatic routing by visitor country is
part of the Pro version.

### What happens if a marketplace has no Tracking ID configured?

The link falls back to the Tracking ID of your **fallback marketplace**, so you
never lose a commission just because you have not enrolled in a regional programme.

### Can I use several Amazon marketplaces?

Yes. The Associates programme runs separately in each country, each with its own
Operating Agreement and its own Tracking ID — enter each one under Marketplaces
and the plugin picks the right one per box. The settings page warns you when an
ID does not look like it belongs to the store it is filed under.

### How do I show a box in a sidebar?

On a modern theme the widget areas are block areas: add the **Affiliate Box** block
and pick your box.

On a site running _Classic Widgets_, use the **Affiliate Box** widget under **Appearance
Widgets**. It defaults to the narrow **Sidebar** layout, and a widget with nothing
chosen draws nothing at all — not even its heading.

A shortcode in a Text widget still works too: `[affiliate_box box="a7f3k2c9" layout
="sidebar"]`. The Sidebar layout is vertical, centred, and fills the column up to
400px.

### 󠀁[Easy to use and does what I need](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/easy-to-use-and-does-what-i-need/)󠁿

 [marcs777](https://profiles.wordpress.org/marcs777/) October 25, 2026

I was looking for a simple way to add Amazon product boxes to my WordPress site
and tried Doozly. Setup was easy and I had my first product box working pretty quickly.
I like that the plugin is not overloaded with settings and the boxes look clean
without much configuration. So far everything works as expected. Would be nice to
see some more features added over time, but for a relatively new plugin this is
already very useful. Good job.

## Changelog

#### 2.28.3

 * **Updated the Freemius SDK to the latest version.** Freemius is the code that
   connects this plugin to a Doozly account and handles the upgrade link; it travels
   inside the plugin rather than being installed separately. This release carries
   their current version. Nothing in the plugin’s own code changed, and nothing
   changes on screen.

#### 2.28.2

 * **Fixed: an unanswered Freemius email hid the Get Premium link and made the preview
   tabs mention a licence you never bought.** That email is sent when you connect
   the site and your address already has a Freemius account — it has nothing to
   do with a purchase. The link and the Upgrade to Premium button now stay; the
   notice at the top still asks you to confirm.

#### 2.28.1

 * **A Get Premium link in this plugin’s row on the Plugins screen**, leading to
   the pricing page. It replaces the plain _Upgrade_ link that could appear there,
   and it is gone once a Premium licence is active.

#### 2.28.0

 * **The Premium tabs are there now, as previews.** Geotargeting, Bestsellers, Comparison
   Tables, Reviews, Rotation and Reports each open a short page saying what the
   feature does, with a button to the pricing page. Nothing in this plugin is locked
   or greyed out — the code for those features is not part of it, and everything
   that was free stays free.
 * **On the General tab, what you have comes first.** The cards for the paid tabs
   stand apart, in a second group headed _In Premium_.

#### 2.27.2

 * **Removed a licensing key that had been travelling in the free package.** It
   is not used at runtime, but a key of any kind has no business in a package anyone
   can download. The build now removes it and refuses to finish if it is still there.
 * **Every admin screen now loads its JavaScript from a file instead of carrying
   it in the page.** Nothing changes on screen; the file is cached by the browser
   rather than re-sent with every page. WordPress.org does not allow JavaScript
   written into the markup, and the free edition was held up for exactly that.
 * **The Amazon search in the box editor speaks your language now** — eleven messages
   were written into the script in English and reached no translation file.
 * **The readme documents every external service**: what is contacted, when, what
   is sent, and under whose terms.
 * **Fixed: a product box saved by an older version printed PHP warnings on the
   page.** Fields have been added to a box over the versions, and the stored boxes
   were never brought up to date; the renderer read them without asking whether
   they were there. Nothing was visible, but with `WP_DEBUG` on a row of “Undefined
   array key” warnings appeared in the middle of the post. Found on a clean install
   while testing this release.
 * Removed `Tested up to` from the plugin header, where it is not a valid field.

#### 2.26.0

 * **The affiliate disclosure has a third answer: once per page.** It was in every
   box or nowhere, and neither works once an output gets small — a grey compulsory
   sentence under a one-line Compact strip is longer than the strip, and five product
   mentions in an article meant five copies of the same line. Leaving it out is
   not an option: Amazon requires it, and a silent omission is exactly the kind
   of mistake this plugin exists to prevent. **Once per page** draws it with the
   first box and leaves it off the rest, so it still sits above every link it covers.
 * **A fifth layout: Button only (auto × 38 px).** No card at all — just the call
   to action, for after a paragraph that has already named the product. No picture,
   no title, no price, because they are in the sentence above. This is the layout
   the disclosure setting unlocks; without **Once per page** every button would
   carry its own grey line and stop being a button.
 * **Picture on the right**, a tick box in the box editor. For several boxes one
   after another: three identical arrangements read as a catalogue, alternating
   sides read as an article somebody wrote. It belongs to the box rather than to
   the placement, which is what makes the alternation hold wherever the box appears.
 * Under the surface, again: the disclosure was read in **six** places across five
   files, each with its own copy of the same rule. It now lives in one.
