BotDesk answers your visitors’ questions, captures the leads you’d otherwise miss, and can book appointments — trained on your own business in about five minutes. When you’re closed, busy, or asleep, it keeps replying so a customer with a question doesn’t bounce to a competitor. This plugin connects your WordPress site to your BotDesk account. You paste your BotDesk API key once, and the widget appears on the front end of your site. There is nothing to code. **What the assistant does for your visitors** * Answers questions about your hours, services, and pricing, using your own site’s information. * Captures the visitor’s name, phone, and email along with what they asked, and emails it to you. * Routes ready-to-buy visitors toward booking an appointment (on supported plans). * Works around the clock, on any page of your site. **How it works** This is a companion plugin for the hosted BotDesk service at [botdesk.studio](https://botdesk.studio). You need a BotDesk account and API key. The plugin injects the official BotDesk widget script (`https://botdesk.studio/widget.js`) into your site’s footer with your key. When a visitor loads a page on your site, their browser loads the BotDesk widget script from `https://botdesk.studio/widget.js`, and chat messages the visitor sends are processed by BotDesk to generate replies. Install and activate the plugin. 2. Go to **Settings BotDesk**. 3. Paste your BotDesk **API key** (find it in your BotDesk dashboard — it is the value inside `data-api-key="…"` in your embed code). 4. Make sure **Show widget** is checked, and save. 5. Visit your site — the chat button appears in the corner. ## FAQ ### Do I need a BotDesk account? Yes. BotDesk is a hosted service. This plugin connects your site to your BotDesk account using your API key. You can start a free trial at botdesk.studio. ### Where do I find my API key? In your BotDesk dashboard, on the Home tab, in your embed code. It is the value inside `data-api-key="…"`. ### Will this slow down my site? The widget loads a single small script in your footer. It does not run any code on your server. ### How do I remove the widget temporarily? Uncheck **Show widget** on the settings page, or deactivate the plugin. ### Does the plugin collect any data? No. The plugin only stores your API key in your site’s options and prints the widget script.
