Click “Backup Now” or set a schedule. 2. BackupNest exports your database and collects your website files. 3. It compresses everything into a single ZIP archive. 4. The archive is verified for integrity. 5. The backup is stored in a protected directory on your server. 6. Older backups are automatically removed based on your retention setting. ### External Services This plugin does not connect to any external service. All backups are stored locally on your server. No data is transmitted outside your WordPress installation. ### Privacy This plugin does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. All backup data remains on your own server. If email notifications are enabled, they are sent using your site’s own WordPress mail configuration. ## Installation 1. Upload the `backupnest` folder to the `/wp-content/plugins/` directory. 2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress. 3. Go to the “BackupNest” menu in your WordPress admin. 4. Configure your schedule and retention settings. 5. Click “Backup Now” to create your first backup. ## FAQ ### Where are my backups stored? Backups are stored in `wp-content/uploads/backupnest/` by default. This directory is protected by `.htaccess` and an `index.php` file to prevent direct browser access. ### Does this plugin send data to any external service? No. All backups are stored locally on your own server. No data is sent to any external service. ### Can I schedule automatic backups? Yes. Go to BackupNest Schedule and choose Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. Scheduled backups run via WP-Cron at 2:00 AM site time. ### How many backups are kept? By default, the 5 most recent backups are kept. You can change this in BackupNest Retention. Older backups are deleted automatically after a new backup is successfully created and verified. ### Can I download my backups? Yes. Go to BackupNest Backups and click “Download” next to any backup. This lets you keep an off-site copy of your site for disaster recovery or migration. ### What happens if a backup fails? If a scheduled backup fails, an email notification is sent to the site administrator( if enabled in Settings). You can also check BackupNest Logs to see what happened. ### Does BackupNest work on shared hosting? Yes. BackupNest is designed for shared hosting. It includes fallback mechanisms for common shared hosting limitations.
