They choose an ETF, a period, a one-time deposit and a monthly savings rate. The plugin then calculates the result from real historical closing prices (a backtest) and shows it as key figures, a chart and a yearly table. The calculator is embedded with a shortcode and works without page reloads. **Features** * One-time deposit and monthly savings plan, each with a slider and an input field. * Searchable ETF selection and a date picker. * Calculation on real daily closing prices, not on an assumed average return. * Six key figures: one-time deposit, monthly deposits, gain, final value, total invested and growth in percent. * Stacked bar chart with the yearly development and a detailed tooltip per year. * Yearly table with all values, which visitors can show and hide. * You decide which ETFs are offered. Visitors can only calculate the ETFs on your list. An ETF search in the settings fills in symbol and name for you. * Six color themes with a live preview, plus your own colors. * Headings, currency symbol and colors are adjustable. * Prices are cached for 12 hours per ETF. The public endpoint is rate limited per IP. * All scripts and styles are bundled with the plugin. Nothing is loaded from a CDN. **You need your own EODHD API key** The plugin gets its prices from the data provider EODHD (see “External services” below). You enter your own API key in the settings. According to EODHD’s pricing page, the free plan only covers one year of price history, so meaningful long-term calculations need a paid EODHD plan. **No investment advice** This plugin is a technical tool. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. The calculation ignores costs, taxes and dividends that are paid out. A matching notice is shown below every calculator. **Premium (optional add-on)** A separate premium add-on adds further features that are not part of this plugin: an animated visual view, a trend view, return figures (yearly returns, best and worst year, two return methods), your own start values and quick-select amounts, CSV export, ETF groups and your own icons and texts. This free plugin is fully functional on its own; nothing in it is locked or limited. ### External services This plugin connects to the API of **EODHD (EOD Historical Data)** to retrieve historical end-of-day prices. Without this service the calculator cannot work. * **When:** When a visitor runs a calculation for an ETF whose prices are not in the cache (at most once every 12 hours per ETF). In the admin area: when the settings page is opened or “Test connection” is clicked (key check), and when an administrator searches for an ETF to add. * **What is sent:** The ticker symbol of the selected ETF (for example `EUNL.XETRA`), the requested date range and your EODHD API key. For the ETF search in the admin area: the search term entered by the administrator. The request is made by your server. Upload the plugin to `/wp-content/plugins/` or install it from the Plugins screen. 2. Activate the plugin. 3. Open “ETF Calculator” in the admin menu and enter your EODHD API key. 4. Add the ETFs you want to offer on the “ETFs” tab. 5. Add the shortcode `[axolotl_etf_calculator]` to a page. ## FAQ ### Where do I get the API key? Create an account at https://eodhd.com/. After signing in, the key (“API token”) is shown in your dashboard. ### Do keys from other data providers work? No. The plugin only works with EODHD. ### Which symbols can I use? Any symbol EODHD offers end-of-day data for, written with the exchange, for example` EUNL.XETRA`, `SPY.US` or `VWRL.LSE`. ### How is the result calculated? The one-time deposit and the first monthly rate are invested on the start date, every further rate one month later, each at the first closing price on or after that day. The value of all purchased shares at the end date is the final value. Costs, taxes and dividends that are paid out are not included. ### Is this investment advice? No. The calculator only shows what happened in the past. ### Can I preselect an ETF? Yes: `[axolotl_etf_calculator symbol="SPY.US"]`.
