Automatic Featured Images from Videos

Description

When placing a YouTube or Vimeo video within the first 800 characters of a post, the thumbnail of that video will automatically be sideloaded and set as the featured image for the post as long as the post does not already have a featured image set.

In addition, after setting the video thumbnail as the featured image, an “is_video” post meta field is updated to allow for the use of conditional statements within your loop.

Perfect & Simple

Perfect & Simple. It crops the YouTube Videos perfectly no matter the aspect ratio. The resolution if also quite sufficient.

No longer works

Tried this a bunch of times and it doesnt work. No errors or warnings, it just never sets the featured image

Must Have Plugin for Vloggers

I’ve tested this plugin on my local server and live website, it is awesome. As a YouTuber, this plugin has helped streamline my workflow since I can now create one thumbnail for both YouTube and WordPress and have it displayed once. Note: every theme is different so the way featured images are displayed is handled by the theme, not the plugin. This plugin does it’s job perfectly! Well done WebDevStudios.

Good plugin 🙂

Hi,

Great plugin. I was wondering though, is it possible for you to add other video hosts to the list? Such as LiveLeak, so it creates an featured image as well.

If that’s even possible.

Thanks.

Great Time Saver! Awesome Work!

Awesome plugin. Works well. Thank you!

Additional tip/feature – With the rise of twitter for video. It would me amazing if this plugin could also grab and set the feature image of a twitter url link that contains video.
