Automatic Featured Images from Videos

When placing a YouTube or Vimeo video within the first 1000 characters of a post, the thumbnail of that video will automatically be sideloaded and set as the featured image for the post as long as the post does not already have a featured image set.

In addition, after setting the video thumbnail as the featured image, an “is_video” post meta field is updated to allow for the use of conditional statements within your loop.

Must Have Plugin for Vloggers

I’ve tested this plugin on my local server and live website, it is awesome. As a YouTuber, this plugin has helped streamline my workflow since I can now create one thumbnail for both YouTube and WordPress and have it displayed once. Note: every theme is different so the way featured images are displayed is handled by the theme, not the plugin. This plugin does it’s job perfectly! Well done WebDevStudios.

Good plugin 🙂

Great plugin. I was wondering though, is it possible for you to add other video hosts to the list? Such as LiveLeak, so it creates an featured image as well.

If that’s even possible.

Great Time Saver! Awesome Work!

Awesome plugin. Works well. Thank you!

Additional tip/feature – With the rise of twitter for video. It would me amazing if this plugin could also grab and set the feature image of a twitter url link that contains video.

Perfect plugin!

I am absolutely satisfied and so happy this plugin exists. I use VIMEO PRO to post videos on my membership site. I ran into some issues generating the thumbnails at first because of the video’s privacy settings on the VIMEO site but eventually figured it out. (You have to set the videos so “Anyone can see”).

This plugin is coded beautifully and perfectly with just the right amount of features and options. No bloat. Thank you! (Tell me where to donate…I would love to support.)

Almost perfect

Simple and useful plugin than does only thing it should. Sometimes glitches — creates the picture 2 times.

Almost perfect

It works great. The only problem is that it creates a featured image within the blog post as well so I have an featured image stacked on top of the youtube video image which looks a little goofy. Is there a way to only have the featured image on my homepage post preview while leaving it out of the actual post page?
