## Description
**Audileo TTS** adds a floating play button to every page of your WordPress site,
allowing visitors to listen to your content read aloud using the browser’s built-
in Web Speech API.

#### How Voice Selection Works
The plugin scans all voices available in the visitor’s browser, ranks them by type,
and auto-selects one:
1. **Edge Natural voices** – Available in Microsoft Edge and Chrome on Windows 10/

2. **Google voices** – Available in Google Chrome
3. **Apple voices** – Available in Safari (macOS/iOS)
4. **System voices** – Fallback for all browsers
A suitable voice matching the page language is auto-selected and saved for future
visits via browser localStorage.
#### Privacy
This plugin does **not** collect, store, or transmit any data. All text-to-speech
processing happens locally in the visitor’s browser using the Web Speech API. No
external API calls are made. Voice preferences are stored in the visitor’s browser
localStorage only.
## Installation
1. Upload the `audileo-tts` folder to `/wp-content/plugins/`
2. Activate the plugin through the **Plugins** menu
3. Go to **Settings > Audileo TTS** to customize the player
4. The play button automatically appears on every page

The plugin works out of the box with sensible defaults:

## FAQ
### Does this plugin work with all browsers?
Yes! The Web Speech API is supported in all modern browsers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox,
Safari, Opera). Voice quality varies by browser:
* **Microsoft Edge** – Edge Natural
voices * **Google Chrome** – Google voices * **Safari** – Apple voices * **Firefox**–
System voices
### How does it know what text to read?
The plugin intelligently extracts the main content by:
1. Looking for semantic
HTML elements (``, ``) 2. Detecting WordPress theme content areas(`.
entry-content`, `.post-content`, etc.) 3. Removing known noise elements (nav, footer,
sidebar, ads, comments, etc.) 4. Cleaning up the text (removing button labels, share
links, etc.)
You can add additional CSS selectors to exclude via the Advanced settings.
### Does it require an API key?
No. The plugin uses the browser’s built-in Web Speech API, which is completely free
and requires no API keys or external services.
### Can visitors choose their own voice?
Yes. The expanded player includes a voice selector dropdown that lists all voices
available in the visitor’s browser, organized by quality tier.
### Is it GDPR compliant?
Yes. The plugin makes no external requests and stores nothing server-side. Voice
preferences are stored in the visitor’s browser localStorage only.
### Does it work with page builders?
Yes. The plugin works with any WordPress content: Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, Beaver
Builder, WPBakery, Classic Editor, etc. It extracts text from the page’s main content
area regardless of how it was built.
