We built this for our own store, where it sends every order and support email. **What makes it different** Most SMTP plugins ask you to pick from dozens of mail services, or to create a Google Cloud project and OAuth app before Gmail will work. This one does one thing: connect a single Gmail or Google Workspace account with a Google App Password, guided step by step in a pop-up with buttons that open the right Google pages. The login is tested before anything is saved, so you know it works before your store depends on it. **How it works** 1. Go to Settings > Mail Relay and click Connect Gmail. 2. Enter your Gmail address and a Google App Password. The pop-up walks you through creating one, with buttons that open the right Google pages. 3. Click Test & connect. The plugin checks the login before saving anything. 4. Send a test email from the same screen. **Features** * Works with WordPress core, WooCommerce and any plugin that uses `wp_mail()`: contact forms, help desks, membership and booking plugins * Keeps each email’s From name, Reply-To, CC, BCC and attachments such as PDF invoices * Login test before saving, with plain-English help when Gmail rejects it * App Password stored encrypted (AES-256) * One-click test email * Log of the last 20 emails, with the reason for any failure * Warns you if another mail plugin is active * WooCommerce is optional; HPOS and Cart/Checkout blocks compatible when it is active * No tracking and no external service run by us. Your email goes straight from your site to Google. **Full version** The [full version](https://getalienartifacts.com/mail-relay/) adds a Google Apps Script relay that sends over HTTPS (for hosts that block mail ports, and accounts that can’t use App Passwords), automatic retries if Google is briefly unreachable, and a 200-email log. Your connection carries over when you upgrade. **Sending limits** Google limits how much each account can send per day; the limits depend on your account type and are published by Google. It does so every time WordPress sends an email while the plugin is connected, and when you click Test & connect. Each email’s recipients, subject, content and attachments, plus your Gmail address and App Password for sign- in, are sent to Google. No data is sent anywhere else. Go to Settings > Mail Relay and click Connect Gmail. 3. Enter your address and a Google App Password, then click Test & connect. 4. Send a test email. ## FAQ ### How do I get an App Password? 1. Turn on 2-Step Verification for the Google account you want to send from. 2. Open the App Passwords page in your Google account (sign in again if asked). 3. Type a name such as “My site email” and click Create. 4. Copy the 16-letter code Google shows. It is only shown once. Spaces don’t matter. 5. Paste it into the Connect pop-up and click Test & connect. The pop-up has buttons that open each Google page. ### I don’t see the App Passwords option Usually 2-Step Verification is off; turn it on first. On Google Workspace accounts your administrator may have disabled App Passwords, or the account may use only security keys or Advanced Protection. ### Why can’t I use my normal Google password? Google no longer allows apps to sign in with your regular password. An App Password is a separate 16-letter code that can be revoked at any time from your Google account. ### Email stopped sending after I changed my Google password Changing your Google password cancels all App Passwords. Create a new one and reconnect under Settings > Mail Relay. ### The test says my host is blocking port 587 Some hosts block outgoing mail connections. Ask your host to allow connections to smtp.gmail.com on port 587, or use the full version, whose Apps Script relay sends over HTTPS instead. ### Where is my App Password stored? In your WordPress database, encrypted with AES-256 using a key derived from your site’s secret salts. To use your own key, define `AAMR_ENCRYPTION_KEY` in `wp-config. php` before connecting. ### Does this send data to Alien Artifacts? No. The only external connection is to Google’s mail server, smtp.gmail.com, to send your email. ### Can I send from a different address than my Gmail login? Yes, if that address is set up as a verified “Send mail as” alias in Gmail.
