It’s been exactly one month since we released the well-received WordPress 2.0 release. In the past 4 weeks we’ve been listening closely to feedback, squashing bugs wherever we find them, and watching how 2.0 handled under different loads.
We’ve rolled up all the most important fixes into a 2.0.1 release, which is now available for download.
All in all we’ve closed 114 bugs in the 2.0.1 release, which you’re welcome to check out if you’re curious about every fix. To summarize:
- You can now specify an upload directory, and whether to use date-based storage or not.
- Caching has been fixed under certain PHP enviroments.
- Permalinks have been fixed for weird enviroments as well.
- XML-RPC uploading works.
- Compatibility with older versions of PHP.
- Several WYSIWYG fixes and cleanups.
- Imports now use much less memory.
- Now works with MySQL 5.0 in strict mode.
Happy blogging!

Unfortunately, most people I know in the area have four exams in total to write, and my plans for the evening just fell through, meaning I’m left to work on… stuff. I just upgraded the blog engine to WP 2.0.1, released about an hour ago. I need to order a crystal still for this 2.4GHz satellite downconverter; once I modify the IF on it and retune the combline filter, we can probably put it to use at the radio station. I’m going to compile a new kernel on tombstone (finally switching from DevFS to udev, as well), and perhaps add AX.25 support back in; although I suppose it’s rather useless, considering I don’t really do much on AMPR anymore. I should probably do a bit of work on UEC as well, but to be honest, I just don’t feel up to it at the moment. […]

Apparently, 114 some bugs have been fixed with this 2.0.1 upgrade, which has been released exactly 30 days after 2.0. So casting aside the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” motto, I’m upgrading. […]

The upgrade seems to have gone well so far, but what I would like to see is a one-click upgrade button within the admin panel. I dont know how realistic this is to do with a web app such as WordPress, but with WordPress’s maturity and the user base it seems to be aimed at (Id wager beginners through l33t) it should really be there if possible, as the current overwriting of disparate files and folders is quite scary. I do have ideas in my mind that I would like to write about, but the evil twin (or perhaps the lazy twin) of me keeps telling me to put it off, because formulating ideas into words seems so difficult these days. However, I haven’t been idle. During these days, I have updated my blog to WordPress 2.0.1. Once again I changed the header images, and also applied some changes on the sidebar. The progressive and accumulative design has really made Wooden Fish better and better. […] I waited patiently until WordPress 2.0.1 was released as I heard there were quite a few bugs in WordPress 2.0. Anyways, the install was a bit tricky, mainly because I had some modifications to the default Kubrick theme which I had to port over and a bunch of plugins I had to upgrade and test as well. It looks like everything is finally working now and looks-wise the site looks almost identical to before. The administration interface is a bit nicer although nothing to write home about. The only reason I upgraded was so that I can upgrade to the next major release, and so on. The WordPress 2.0 upgrade guide was useful as well as the WordPress 2.0 Plugin Compatibility Guide. The only plugin I am sorely missing is the spelling checker I was using, which apprently doesn’t work well with 2.0. Much nicer. And the image uploader works much better now too, it had a lot of bugs in the first go around… Go upgrade! […]

I expect one of several outcomes: […]

[…] HS is built using WordPress at its current version 2.0.1. By deactivating all the plugins I have installed, it turned out that they are not the reason causing the problem. Very soon, I have found that the directories under wp-content/cache contain huge amount of temporary files, which seem to be the cached pages of HS. It was slow when gftp was fetching the file names under these directories. Since they were automatically generated files which were not important, I removed all of them. Right after that, HS is responding again. […]

Never again will I fail to patch WordPress . I didn’t have too many problems upgrading. Only one plugin didn’t work. The database was kind of a pain. I created a new DB, then tried to import data from the old DB. Unfortunately I have too much data, so I had to import in small chunks. So far, I don’t really see any real big improvement in WordPress 2. […] As promised (but never instant) I have upgraded [WordPress] to version 2,0,1 and I have to say, now that I am using it to write a post, it is looking gorgeous. The text box I am currently typing in has a toolbar above it which looks like it is made from a desktop widget toolkit. In fact, just adding that link was a usability dream come true, with the URL prompt allowing me to also specify a title, and the link now appearing as underlined blue text, not as raw HTML. Being comfortable with the technology underlying the web, and having not used many advanced web interfaces (except Google Maps), I perhaps had a low expectation of WordPress’s interface, and the old version didn’t bother me. I can definitely appreciate the improvement, though, and would encourage anyone to start using this as their blogging software. […]

[…] As my earlier post in this blog RSS Syndication as a mechanism for sharing information describes, the basic model proposed is a network of institutional and Academy weblogs all sharing a basic summary of postings and links to each other via RSS (Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary, RDF Site Summary – choose whatever is most memorable). The WordPress 2.0 weblog we have set up at the Academy is currently world readable but only a limited number of people can author/edit postings. It’s very easy to add increased security to WordPress so that for instance we could prevent anyone except registered members, e.g. only those taking part in the benchmarking pilot, seeing any postings at all. We could also hide certain postings unless someone was a registered member so that the public visitor gets to see some but not all postings. We also have a ‘Lab’ page (for testing works-in-progress) which currently doesn’t allow public access. […]
