WP build-in Threaded Comments and CAPTCHA
Although there are a range of plugins available for these two features I would like to request them to be WP build-in functions. Because:
Firstly, these 2 features are very commonly used and very necessary for the WP.
Secondly, so far i didn't manage to make these two work at the same time by using plugins, maybe due to the conflict of the two kind of plugins.
As long as you also include the ability to turn OFF captchas.
Many might use them, but many more hate them with a passion.
a) Please, please search the Ideas forum before posting an idea. CAPTCHAs have been suggested many times before.
b) CAPTCHAs will never make it into WP core. Why? Search the Ideas forum and read what people like MarkJaquith and others have to say about them.
c) Threaded comments isn't such a bad suggestion, but again, this has been suggested already several times.
... and already has support in the db, the rest is theme domain (setting the comment parent and building the comment tree on display)
I agree with everyone else here - CAPTCHAs should remain outside the core code. There are any number of options to implement them through plugins, if you so desire.
Threaded comments, however, could probably be a pretty cool idea. Sure they *could* be implemented through the theme, but why not put it in the core functionality?
Captcha's are a very bad idea and do not work. Already been discussed in these Ideas as well.
Captchas are the suckiest thing in the whole internet. I'd rather see more spam and less captchas than the opposite.
I'm with ozh on this one. I'd rather see more spam than captchas. Plus, I believe threaded comments gets pretty ugly and unruly sometimes. This should definitely be left to plugins.
