I hope there will be wordpress SMTP which allow user to set their smtp mail and port, without installing any plugin yet, and wordpress smtp has integrated with wordpress code core

That's a function of your host, more than WP, which uses PHP's mail() tool.

@dedeobi: If you want to configure the wp_mail() function to use SMTP instead of mail() there are many plugins that can already do this. I don't see any benefit from this being integrated into the WP Core...

nireder497, I disagree with you. SMTP is major functionality of any popular web application, if there will possibility to use this functionality it will be very helpful to all users who don't know any programming languages.

aha and when we disable php mail function on all our servers because of security reasons and all our new wordpress users don't get the welcome mail automaticly sended after installing wordpress?

Using plugins is everytime a risk! So a selfimplemented small briquette of code inside the functions.php will do the trick. Ok (I here many people say) not everyone is firm with coding but those people should be able to get a webworker on this issue and pay something for those services.

php mail function is one of the most reasons of hackings into servers. I hope more people start to think about security instead of building up things in seconds and will have problems for hours.

shortsayd: I agree with dedeobi and in addition - optional fields for smtp setup at installingroutine (a small testscript which displays: mail function is "disabled" on your server. Plz fill in your SMTP datas for wellcome email)will do the trick for everyone.

    cheers

tenserd, can you cite your source on php mail() being "one of the most reasons of hackings into servers" please?

Poorly coded forms using it can be exploited for spam or email abuse, but as a hacking vector is different.

I agree with Ipstenu; e-mail Injection is used to send out spam from your mail server using your mail form; an interesting reference about it is http://resources.infosecinstitute.com/email-injection/. Personally I don't see any benefit from SMTP being integrated into the WP Core.

I agree with slsniffer: Setting up an SMTP will be helpful for all non programmer users.

I believe the built in ability to add your 3rd party SMTP service provider is critical. Many hosts are forbidding php mail() because of server IP blacklisting.

Rely on a 3rd party for SMTP plugin is just not an appealing thought. Plus that adds to the "total" plugin problem.

Built in capability to select your 3rd party SMTP service should be in WordPress core.
