WordPress Media Gallery - Please, that can't be true ...

If you all are talking about having tags for gallery images in the Media Library, I've used Shiba Media Library for a while now. Unfortunately, it's not in the repository (she says WP won't let her put it in there) but it's a great plugin. Just allows you to add tags to existing (and future) images you upload through the regular WP methods. SHe's got a nice WordPress gallery thing too - extends the existing [gallery] shortcode stuff.

I hope I'm posting to the correct place. My search pointed me to this thread. I hope I'm right. If not, I appreciate if you can point me to the right direction. Thank you.

I cannot understand how can it be that there is an add to gallery option but no 'remove' option?

It is logical that when someone designs an 'add' function she or he caters for 'remove' as well. There is delete image but that deletes the image from the 'library'. It is not the opposite of 'add gallery' function. If your image is used on other parts of the site those images will be broken.

In its current state of WordPress if you want to remove an image from the gallery your only option is to delete the image, re-add the image to the library AND correct all the links in the site as the image path most likely be changed. You have to do even if you made a mistake and added the wrong image to a gallery. This is beyond silly.

It should be relatively simple to add a 'remove from gallery' link and rename the current link to 'delete image'. This should be a priority.

I hope I have not offended anyone. I am new to WordPress and I'm loving it. It is those silliness that we need to get rid of.

Thank you for pointing that out. I have seen it and it may do the job, but disabling is not the same as removing.

Why try to eliminate the result caused by the problem instead of eliminating it in the first place? I'm not good enough a programmer to understand why nobody is addressing the cause of the problem instead publishing which are effectively kludges.

I agree that this problem should be fixed in the very first place. As for me, I "unattach" attachments manually via phpMyAdmin. For me it's faster and less chances to mess smth up. If I had to do this at least once a week, I would write a plugin for that but I did it only few times during past years.
But that's definitely a missed basic feature.

There's a new plugin that may help this for now.

Finally, a good soul solved the problem. I hope the WP team will integrate this plugin to the core.

    Thank you!

Ipstenu, I have just tried this plugin on a test site and I have to say that it does the job. I hate plugins though, the less of them the better. They usually slow down the site performance.

What's the status on this. I know there's a plugin, but has WordPress done anything about incorporating this into their platform?
