WordPress markedplace with paid / commercial plugins & themes

Currently only free plugins is available at wordpress.org.

It would be really helpful for both users and developers if it was an option to take a fee for your plugin and / or theme in the wordpress markedplace, instead of using a third-party markedplace (like envato) to sell your plugins and themes.

Prices could have limited options like: 9$, 19$ or 29$ for first installation and a year with updates.

That would add better support for quality plugins and developers would not need to give markedplace fees to third-parties. Instead wordpress.org could take a small fee which also could help WP growing.

Also the struggle with autoupdate support etc. would no longer be so hard ^^

Could learn alot from Google Play, App Store etc. about how this could be done ;)

Since wordpress is used in several countries, different taxes and regulations apply. If u charge money for a service its a total different thing.

Since wordpress is open source not all want to go the step for commercial support.

    1. Im sure this would not be a problem regarding to taxes, instead it would be a kind of challenge ;). Have a chat with f.ex the WooCoomerce team about how they have done it and perhaps you find a workaround.

Yup its a total different thing but sorely needed I think.

    2. True, its not for all. Only for those using WP commercialy (Which I guess is alot of people right now).

And of course you are not 'forced' to buy commercial plugins, free plugins could still be available.

  4. No, WordPress.org has no plans to host a commercial marketplace for plugins or themes at this time.
