Vote On Plugins To Integrate
wordpress.org should put a poll on each plugin page, so we admins can vote for plugins which should be integrated into the wordpress kernel or core or base install.
for example, i'd like to see the following become part of the base install:
-Lighter Admin Drop Menus
-One Click Plugin Updater
-WordPress Database Backup
-Wordpress Automatic Upgrade
I'm with Johnywhy... nice list
My idea is that they cease to be plugins, once integrated into the base install. They would NOT be listed on the plugins page. Although, the WordPress authors might want to keep their plugin status, to keep authorship separate. But i'd prefer seamless integration.
One possible benefit is that, integration with the base install would motivate those plugin developers to keep up the quality of the code and support.
I'd suggest doing one plugin-per-idea and gathering votes that way.
What I find wonderful about WordPress is that you can pick out what you want and leave out what you don't like. This proposal of integrating scertain plugins as part of the system will force users to integrate things they don't even want in some cases. I have several configurations of WordPress I use depending on the situation. Why would you want to change a perfect modular system?
You don't have to use it just because it's there.
johnywhy, I installed most of the plugins that you recommended. What a brilliant list! I heartily agree with your suggestions.
