Upload new plugin version via .zip

I thought I'd go through some old plugins I've made and update them for WordPress 4.5. It's been a long time, and I'd forgotten I have to setup and learn a bloody SVN just to upload a few .php files. I know it's a brilliant system and it exists for a reason and blah-de-blah; I can't be bothered.
I feel I should be able to upload a zip on the website and be done with it. So that's my request for the future.

  2. You mean a zip to THIS website? The wordpress.org plugin repo? Because you totally can upload zips to your selfhosted sites.

At this time, no, we won't be allowing you to uploads zips since the purpose of SVN is version control, and using zips defeats that.

@Ruuttu - Hey man, I feel your pain. But once you understand the basics, an SVN or any version control for that matter is so very useful.

Just google up the terms. Tortoise SVN is what you need if you are on Windows.

    In layman terms:

checkout = downloading the repo to your pc
commit = uploading it from your pc to the repo.

    Hope that helps a bit.
