Update WordPress Core to HTML5

XHTML 1.0 is soooo old... (Like, since 2000 AD!)

I strongly suggest that the WordPress core is updated to the latest version of HTML, HTML5. WordPress can continue to use XHTML with XHTML5.

    What a great idea!

It would improve WordPress because you could use <audio>, <video> and many other tags!

Actually, it depends on your theme if you can use the new HTML5 tags. If your theme has the <!DOCTYPE html> header, then it should be fine!

Why has the Status changed to "Duplicate of another idea"? I did search but still came up with no results. Could someone please point out the original topic.

    Lots of places.

Also this is, mostly, a theme issue not a WP one. Unless you're talking about the BACK end of WP. html5 themes are already out there.

I know that there are lots of HTML5 themes (as mentiioned in my previous post), but I am talking about updating the WordPress core to HTML5. That is, the dashboard and all of the files in wp-admin and wp-inculdes plus wp- files in the root.

That's going to fall under the already planned UI modernization.

Function beats HTML5, though for backends of anything. I mean, there's NOTHING to html5 in some files, they're pure code. Should the output we see be HTML5? Maybe. There are issues with screen readers and other UI concerns, but I'm pretty sure that modernization will take this one into account. It'll be a while ;) Not easy to totally re-write the back end, y'know, without breaking all the plugins.

I was looking at the source of one of the WordPress Dashboard pages the other day and I noticed that it was already in XHTML5. I'm not sure when this was implemented (I'm running version 3.3.2).
