Unpublish menu items on custom menus

I know it sounds silly, but clients always are scared about clicking the "DELETE" button.

  4. Not for about two years, but WordPress is not Joomla, and neither of them are Drupal. We try not to compare them here since the user base is a little different ;)

Are we talking about menu Items or menus themselves? I'm just pitching out ideas that would make sense, in the context of WP itself. Remember, the terms used in WP are more likely to be understood by the users ;) and the difference between delete, remove and unpublish, when it comes to a technical aspect, are nil. So it's just lingua fraca at this points.

In wordpress language,... back in wordpress 2.9, i remember i could EXLUDE items from navigation although they were visible! Throughout a parameter called "exclude", it will be cool to be able to exlude items from menus without delete them... from the front-end...

Sorry for my bad English.. i know most of the time i don't express things very well!

  6. For what it's worth, the old 'system' was really weird, and basically just said 'If it's a page, it's in the menu' The new menu system lets you make any page you want.

Menus are totally separate, so while I get that some people are having a bit of a scare, you really are deleting them. Just only from the menu. You're not deleting the page, you're deleting the item from the menu. Which is why I think 'remove' is better than 'exclude.' There isn't a default to include anything anymore.

Hello. I'm joining my voice to Diogo's. Sometimes you need, for some reason or another, to change the menu layout momentarily - like exclude a page from navigation or, as I have to do now, make a customize menu layout that will be copied in my photoshelter site within the frame of the WordPress/Photoshelter integration - and indeed it would be nice to be able to tick menu items into a kind of "draft" mode so one can easily revert to them when needed.
I really think it would be a plus. By the way, also coming from Joomla myself, but thank god I'm here... :P

Permissions and States for menus and widgets like Joomla has would be a very welcome addition.

For example, it would be great to create a menu that was only visible to logged in users.

Another example would be to allow menus to be unpublished without deleting them. That way, it could be restored at a later date.

All of the above could be implemented using CSS classes and custom PHP.
