Thumbnail and image resizing

I totally agree with this idea.

Check out my SEO Web Designer Binh Nguyen and you can see that I barely put any image in post anymore. The main reason is the huge thumbnail file size (not image size).

I beleive there are some plugins already handle image sizing and thumbnailing, but nothing had done this job.

It's FILE SIZE that's important, so please include this in the core. Optimize the thumbnail to 60% quality or less, if it's JPG. And the perfect solution would be PNG 64 colors, nowadays that's what I always use for my website images.

  2. I need to install and play around with the 2.5 WordPress demo. I believe there are more options for images and thumbnails.

I hope this is something they can improve on.

So great if we could have this. A while back, there was a plugin (I think it was called Image Gallery II) that worked with version 1.5. It allowed you to create, add images to, and select images from different folders. That was incredible helpful. Having the option to set default image sizes as an administrator and have the option to allow manual size editing would really be wonderful. In setting up wordpress sites for others, that is usually the biggest problem I encounter. It really needs to be 1-2-3 for uploading and inserting images that are correctly sized. Can't wait until it's ready!

Image resizing requires GD to be installed with PHP. If you don't have root (admin) access to the webserver, you won't be able to resize images with php. The only thing that could be done would be to change the display size.

I am VERY disappointed with the image adding and editing functionality in wp2.5

There is NO send to editor option :( :(

meetarnav: There certainly is a "send to editor" function in WP 2.5's media uploader. Look for "Insert into post."

WordPress 2.5 allows you to set the size of your thumbnail images as well as the size of your medium (intermediary) images. You can have them scale proportionally (longest side limit) or you can make your thumbnails conform to a square.

Thanks to everyone for participating in this Idea thread. Please open new ideas for further improvements to WP's media handling.
