Theme Building/Editing Tool for Non-programmers

I would really like to have a "front page express" type of tool for theme building and editing. I am sure that this is a big ask but I would suspect that it would also be a major selling point for non-programmers who would like to personalize their blogs but do not have the time to invest in learning html, etc.

God Save Us. :) *Front Page* *Shudder* :).

Terminology aside I think this is a very cool idea and one that I have had in mind for some time. The difficult thing would be finding someone to implement it. It requires a very complex skill set - at least to do it properly.

This sounds like typical plugin functionality. It shouldn't be added to the core, which should stay as clean and flexible as possible.

Building a WYSIWYG theme editor would have a lot of "cool factor", but it's ultimately going to prove problematic to build what is essentially a new product into the core. Considering that neither TinyMCE or FCKEditor would be up to the task, it's far too much to ask. If you really want to have a WYSIWYG editor, grab the Firebug plugin for FireFox and start testing CSS tweaks in that sandbox before you commit the changes.
