Support ActivityPub federation! (like Mastodon, PeerTube...)

ActivityPub is a W3C protocol used by Mastodon (a decentralized Twitter clone) and PeerTube (a decentralized YouTube clone) instances to federate. When you share a status on a Mastodon instance you can get a comment from a user from another instance. If you share a video on PeerTube you can get a comment from a user on another PeerTube or Mastodon instance.

Supporting ActivityPub with WordPress would mean that users on other platforms, i.e. Mastodon, can follow your WordPress blog and if a user reply to your post on Mastodon his reply appear as a comment in your WordPress page. If a user of your blog leave a comment on your WordPress page users on other platform like Mastodon can see them as native Mastodon replies.

There is no need to build a full social network with WordPress, but just federate the comment system with other platforms.

We already have plugin for activitystrea.ms, so if somebody would like to do it, it could base on it (https://wordpress.org/plugins/activitystream-extension/)
There is also plugin for OStatus which makes WordPress blogs federate with Mastodon, GNU social etc., so you can follow @m4sk1n@m4sk.in :D

@m4sk1n I don't understand how ActivityStream and that plugin are related to the ActivityPub support I mentioned...

    ActivityPub uses ActivityStreams vocabulary.
