style sheets by authors (or categories)
I'd like the ability to have a post, category or author archive use a different style sheet.
Imagine a blog with several authors, some of whom have a regular following and post more frequently. I'd like to be able to show their posts differently if they are being viewed as an archive. Almost like a Multi User Blog without having to figure out how to get everyones' posts on the front page and reconcile different categories, etc... The front page could have one look, while an author's archive (or category) could have a second derivative look.
This can be done quite easily with Conditional Tags and CSS classes.
flobidde ... not everyone who has a blog is a css programmer. in fact, probably 98 percent arent. what is the problem with making it easier for them to have this functionality with the click of a button no matter the WP template?? Damn, some of you people are so narrow minded.
All you need to do for custom templates for categories is to name a template category-ID.php.
I've been hacking away at this problem myself - I've got a huge number of conditional calls in my header.php and footer.php for my primary weblog (not public yet) to address this issue, because it's not as simple as making category-9.php (for example) - in some cases I need to be able to say "if A and/or B but never with C" and there is no simple way to do that, far as I can tell. So I might have a situation where I say "if category=9 and there aren't any other categories, stick xyz in the header and use footer#2" ... which makes it all a pain in the sitting-on bit.
This is typical theming functionality; the core shouldn't have to be modified for this.
I agree though with maddymoo that conditionals like that can be a pain, just like category intersections, but that's got not much to do with this particular idea.
Plugin territory, and Sandbox theme is exactly great for this.
