Simple change for "add media" on select - WordPress editor

It would be awesome if the button "add media" changed to "replace media" when you click on an image/media in the editor. Not a lot of people know that this is how you replace images/media. Thanks :)

I think you mean, "add media" adds more new media but overwrites the *link* to the old media with a *link* to new media. The old media is not replaced, it still lives on in the media library.

Incidentally, there's a plugin Enable Media Replace that does allow you to "replace media".

As the title states this is for the WordPress editor. Enable media replace is for the Media section and has nothing to do with this.

I think I'm confused as to what you're asking about...

    The button in the toolbar?

I'm hovering over the 'edit' button just in case you mean that one.

Yep! The button that says "add media" in the toolbar, if you click on an image in the editor, like you did in the screenshot, and click "add media" it replaces the image.

Just thought it would be a good idea to have something like jQuery change the text to "replace media".

This would follow along with other events that occur on select, for example, tools like insert/edit link become available when you select text in the editor. When you select a heading or paragraph the drop down is automatically updated.

Those are, you may notice, in the tinyMCE toolbar, where as images are not. That's kinda why. They don't behave exactly the same.

That's an interesting concept and possibly one to be revisited after we move to TinyMCE 4.0 (due in WP 3.8)

Good point. Perhaps it would make more sense to add a button next to "edit image" like the screenshot you posted:

@Travis, I for one like your idea, I am thinking of the learning curve and the not so frequent users. That idea of yours would provide for a positive experience.

So after talking with UX folks, they explained to me the difference between the toolbars, which change the format of things, and the above toolbar items, which add special content. I don't know if I'm explaining it well, but the division between the sections was intentional.
