Sidebar Management Built in
You see many themes lately come out with sidebar management built in the backend of WordPress, and it makes life so much easier than creating a new template file or other hack solution. Sad thing is their solutions sometimes break because of updates to the core of WordPress.
Let's build a solution that makes it easy to put certain sidebars on certain pages and certain posts. We shouldn't have to build new template files to do this, it could be made so much easier. If I was a backend developer I would do it myself, so I extend my thoughts to the awesome WordPress community.
See you on the forums!
yeah I agree... they also integrate sidebar manager with widget logic capability for each widget appearance on specific pages or posts
Yes, I agree that this is very important. Also, I would add that it would be necessary to have more control over the order that the sidebars are displayed. For instance if you add a lot of sidebars it becomes very difficult to drag your available widgets to the different sidebars. Especially as the sidebars that you create extend well beyond the page fold. I wish that the sidebars in the right hand column of the widgets.php page were capable of being dragged and dropped. I found another a plugin that helps this greatly here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/many-sidebars/screenshots/
It would be nice if something similar to this was built into WordPress core.
As this is so heavily dependent on your themes, it would be nigh impossible to hardcode it into WP. At best, a plugin like Widget Logic is a more sustainable option.
