Respond-by-email integration with comments system
Implement the ability to respond to comments via email; this would be particularly useful on smaller blogs where it isn't expected that visitors will return. Many users unfamiliar with blogs leave comments with their email address precisely because they figure they will receive a response if they are leaving their details. Alas there is a missing part of the process: admins have no 1-step solution to simply respond by email within the comment moderation interface.
I've been thinking about this myself. I've searched and been unable to find a plug-in. So just reply to the comment in e-mail and say "check website for response", which is a pain. It would be nice if the commenter were auto-notified of a response to their post by the blog author.
I've implemented the "subscribe to all comments via e-mail" option, but I think most people really only want to read the one response from the author to them, and not every response. And they would rather not have to unsubscribe either if the comments drift in some unintended direction.
As much as I'd like to see thin in WordPress core, it would probably be better as a plug-in. I'm hoping some solution materializes.
Yes, me too!!!! I've been looking for this feature but haven't found anything. We need this feature bad!!! It would be nice if the commenters receive an email right away after they left a comment to let them know they'll receive a response straight from the web's author or just to feel that we care. hmph.
Maybe there should be a Thread Subscription checkbox to notify on the email when someone else (or just the author) makes a comment, like in forums.
I think WordPress will be the first system which incorporates this idea. Is there a blogging software which already has this?
