Replace "publish" button with "save" and "apply" buttons
When I publish (or update) a post, I very rarely want to stay on the post editing screen. Therefore, I propose losing the "publish" and "update" buttons and replace them with "save" and "apply" buttons.
The "save" button would publish/apply your changes and take you back to the full post (or page) listing.
The "apply" button would publish/apply your changes and keep you on the post editing screen.
I dislike this idea. The word "Publish" does exactly what it says on the tin. Save / Apply would be meaningless.
i understand your suggestion, plinth, and think it is a good one. i dont think we need to change the publish button tho. simply add an option above the publish button where you can select what action to take after the post is published/saved/etc. i have written this for myself, as adding several posts can take a long time. if you are interested, email me, and i can shoot you the code.
This is plugin territory. We don't want to put an option in settings for every possible action in the software; that's what plugins are for. You know what they say: At WordPress, we make decisions, not options. :)
