Rename 'Delete' to 'Hide' in new menu system
I think you should rename the 'Delete' link on the new page menu drag-n-drop to 'Hide'. The word delete may make users believe they are indeed deleting a page when in fact they are not... they are only HIDING it from the menu.
Technically, they are deleting it from the menu. But, I can definitely see where confusion could crop up. I'm not sure I like "hide" because we're not hiding the page/category/etc. either. Do you think "remove" might work better? Or, does that sound too much like "delete"?
I think the main point is it's important to get away from the idea that the item, whether that be a page or category, is being trashed or deleted... I like 'Hide' as that's essentially what's happening, the page/category etc is simply being 'hidden' from the menu list. The page or category is still there and working in all it's code poetry but we just can't see it (it's hidden).
I'm with Justin, if it had to be changed then going for 'remove' would sound a lot better! To keep it consistant with all the other links in admin, I'd guess it'll stay as 'delete' unless we renamed them all? =/
Remove is what we went with. Discussion of features already in production happens on Trac tickets.
In case anyone is unaware of what "Trac" is from Jane's reply, check out this link:
It is where new WordPress features are worked on and discussed.
Thanks for that, I just submitted my first one (enhancement)
Semantically, remove is more accurate than hide, as the menu is a list that is created, not an all-encompassing list of all site content that hides everything not desired.
