Really simple publishing method from mobile platforms needed

Definitely WordPress needs something for fast and easy publishing from mobile platforms! I would love to take a picture (or two or three) and publish it with two taps. Without thinking so much about formatting, about inserting code, galleries, or things like that. Mobiles and tablets are spreading everywhere, an any modern platform should be ready for this easiness of doing things. I love to take pictures of my animals or experiences here and there, but it's not easy to share them from the phone to my blog. I'm tempted to send them to Facebook instead, Google+, etc., and I don't want to: I want to keep them mine, on my own server's blog.

I think, looking to the future, that any platform should be really really aware of becoming mobile and tablet friendly. Today, for me, the WordPress iOS app is a shame, where you need to fight to understand and control. It should be easy, friendly, and FAST.

An example is the Tumblr app (https://itunes.apple.com/es/app/tumblr/id305343404?mt=8). I've used it in the past, and it's quite similar to what I mean.

I'm trying hard to keep using my WP blog, to control myself my information, but as I use more and more mobile apps to share, I feel more and more how painful is to post to WordPress from iOS. From the iPad I'm using Blogsy, but again, it's slow, difficult, and you need many many steps to just post a simple thing.

    Anybody else agree with me?

  2. We already have that....

Have you upgraded? The latest version is a dream. Easy to use too :)

Well, I recognize it's better than before, maybe even better from iPad. I'll try it more, thanks.

By the way, to publish a gallery from the apps is yet impossible, right? Only singles photos. Why not add a button to attach the gallery, instead of having to paste photos one by one?

  4. Well...

Here's where you get to be crafty. Upload a bunch of images, insert none, and then type [gallery]

It's not the best interface, but you can do it.

Hmmm, after some days trying it, I have to say that I'm not satisfied yet. Let me explain the things I've found that don't make it easy yet to publish:

    - If I upload a photo to a post from the mobile app, it's uploaded and inserted with the thumbnail resolution you choose. I mean, I cannot upload a full resolution photo, and insert a smaller thumbnail. One of my blogs is mainly photos, and I want to keep the full images there.

    - If I use the [gallery] shortcode, it does nothing.

    - If I want a featured image for the post, I have to upload the same image again, I cannot use the same image I have uploaded before, and if I forget to choose one, the post is shown as only text. Really uncomfortable for me

I'm trying Google+ these days, and it's incredibly easier that this: just pick one or more photos, white something (if you want) and publish. That's it. If you publish one photo, one photo is attached, if you publish more, all are show together as a gallery, without shortcodes, without hassles. I understand that WP today gives more control about where to place thumbnail images and videos, used inside the content, but it makes it very difficult when you want something fast and easy, without too much thinking about formatting. Just my two cents...

OK: I have finally found a workaround that really works as a simple, and fast, and comfortable way to publish without thinking on formating: Jetpack+email

Inside the Jetpack plugin, there's a feature to publish by email. That really works as expected: The subject of the mail is the title, the content is pasted inside, if one single photo is published, it's embedded with the text, if there are two or more, a gallery is created on the fly, without doing anything. And the first image is added as featured image! So it's really fantastic! And I hope my discovery helps others feeling the same thing.

I keep thinking that it should be easier with other alternative method, like the iOS app.

  7. Post by email is being added to WP natively (hopefully for 3.8! Kat!)
