Password protected pages - popup entry form

It would be really cool to be able to have password protected pages use a pop-up rather than a big ugly screen for entering the password.

I need to style this page for the client (they wanted a pop-up) but after an hour of googling it looks like the only option I have, other than hacking the core, is to add a feeble function which will let me add some styling and edit the copy that appears, a bit.

(partially) Ignore me, just realised that of the page that appears with the enter password form is the target page minus the content.

Still be good to have a pop-up though.

    Has anyone figured this out!?

I would like to have a series of buttons on my homepage, once a button is clicked it launches a "lightbox popup" that asks ONLY for a password. Once the password is entered it is redirected to the appropriate page password protected wordpress page.

  5. That's very custom work and would require a specialized plugin.

The ideas forum is meant for the proposals of ideas for WP core, not for plugins.
