Page Order Sorting

Ever since the Page feature has been added to WordPress it's said within the Page Order bar:

"Pages are usually ordered alphabetically, but you can put a number above to change the order pages appear in. (We know this is a little janky, it’ll be better in future releases.)"

How long is this going to stay this way? Why hasn't some kind of page sorting feature like PageMash or My Page Order been added yet?

You should be able to view your pages in hierarchy, and order them via a drag and drop interface. This is just basic stuff it seems like.

i sort of agree... when they implement new features they seem not to incorporate a user friendly way to do it.

I've just come to add my support for this idea. I think it looks really unprofessional to have "We know this is a little janky, it’ll be better in future releases" in the admin area that my clients are using.

I could understand if this was a stopgap, but it's been like this for as long as I've been using WordPress: years. At the very least the 'it'll be better soon' delusion should have been removed long ago because it's obviously not on any kind of priority list AFAIK.

My Page Order is exactly what needs to be implemented to replace this. It handles drag-and-drop page sorting wonderfully.

This is coming to WP 3.0. See http://wpdevel.wordpress.com/2010/02/25/menus-ux-manifesto/
