One Click Child Themes & Theme Template Page Creation

There is a very basic plugin to do this already:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/one-click-child-theme/

I would like to recommend this functionality be built in to WordPress itself, where all you would have to do is just choose the parent theme from a drop down of installed themes, give your theme a name, and poof! Instant child theme!

For maybe possible features: Option to either clone standard page (ie: single.php, index.php) or ability to create your own blank page templates on the fly in wordpress dashboard. (ie : myblankpagetemplate.php)

  2. Really good idea. @mchelles : I do not used this plugin but did it by hand and had sometimes strange behavior since my child themes were not recognized and not appearing in the back office. Such an idea would be safer.

Although the plugin works fine, I think making this core would encourage the use of child themes, rather than randomly hacking theme files..

Yep, that would be great. I didn't work with the suggested plugin yet. I always made everything myself and I don't like the progress. So, I agree to your idea and give you +1.

Making this into core would be a great solution and prevents theme updates by mistake for modified original themes which aren't made as child because of laziness... :)

I think you are doing a disservice to WP users. The problem is that the "obvious" way to change things is to directly "hack" theme files. All changes are then lost when a theme is upgraded. If child themes were made core, it would be obvious that this was the correct method. There could also be drag-and-drop between theme and child theme rather than ftp.

this valid this request - i would also prefer to create child themes on click and edit them in the editor, rather than do it directly on the server

  8. While you are waiting for this to become a Core provision, here is a plugin that works really well: https://wordpress.org/plugins/child-theme-configurator/

Wonderful idea. I hope this gets implemented in version 4.6

  10. Since other Plugins are usually not relevant for Theme-Designers, i would like to see this also as a core function. That way, each developer has to make its own plugins and themes work with it.
