Non-latin characters need love
After opening this thread:
I see there is no solution or support for non-latin characters in wordpress community.
I understand worrying about breaking backwards compatibility but still thinking of needed some love for non-latin characters in permalinks.
If people can use russian characters, like: примерно
There must be an option support or a way to use those characters like: şŞ İı Ğğ Üü Öö çÇ
(Sorry for bad english)
I agree. WordPress needs to be international. Ryan says "Changing how slugs are encoded breaks resolution of old slugs" but why can't there be 2 methods for creating slugs, and an option on the Dashboard that allows people to chose which method they want to use?
It would be great! I use on my (german) blog and on my website 2 languages, 1-german, 2-russian. Some plugins don't show the Cyrillic alphabet. But it works with "pure russian" WordPress.
I don't really understand the reason... It would be great, to find the solution to combine all the characters.
On my blog, it can handle the hebrew and the french, but I have never tried to use the hebrew for the slugs.
I agree with your opinion. A simple and comfortable solution to include non-latin characters would be quite useful for example for users, who'd like to build up a wp-blog with cyrillic or chinese characters.
@iPad: I'm curious to see, how this patch works, when ready... ;-)
An what about German characters such as Ä, Ö, Ü in URLs. Why isnt it possible. WordPress just cuts them off...
I would also prefer to have an ability to display my korean characters in WP. I actually don't know a way of how to realize this. As I saw, there is a beginning of a patch. Hope, this patch will be available soon... Or even better - hope it will be a feature in the next version of WP.
Hi Uslan Kormaz, I see your problem, about Turkish characters. I am having same problems; I checked those patches did your try any of them. If they work let me know, so I can try. Thanks
