Native two-factor authentication support

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is now a necessity in today's world. Whether by email, text, or QR code (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy, etc..), 2FA is crucial to security.

Although there are multiple plugins that provide two-factor authentication, there needs to be native support for 2FA built into WordPress that is supported by the WordPress team. We've seen time and time again many plugins go stale and become security risks themselves. Native support for 2FA could be implemented on a per-user basis, and would provide an exponential increase in security.

Please consider adding this to a future version of WordPress.

    Thank you,
    Logan

We're working on this, starting as a feature plugin

thats a really nice plugin and very useful. i would also like to see that as core function.

Does it have a special reason, why u have done this as plugin instead of adding it as a basic option ?

Because we develop new features via plugins whenever possible :)
