More Powerful Permalinks!
* Custom permalink structures for not just the post format, but also for things like the author page
* Option to remove 'category' (or its equivalent) in category URL [I know this has been debated on, but it would be nice to let people choose. I do agree that putting the word 'category' makes things redundant]
I kinda agree with this:
Specifically I would like to be able to use the authors full name in their post permalinks rather than only having the option to use their login name which is often meaningless.
Also I would like to be able to change the permalinks for author pages.
Some time ago I tried to set permalink structure to domain.com/?/post-name/ (no .htaccess possible on domain...) - but I didn't succeed... although I think this shouldn't mean a technical problem...
Just set your category base to /. WordPress figures it out and doesn't add the category base. However, this can cause problems.
I love permalinks, but
-- there is a problem with long titles. how can this be solved? a link should always short enough to be send by email.
maybe there could be some code that checks if a link is cut of but matches to a post anyway?
-- spelling-correction in the title/permalink are good but you loose your old link... more than one permalink per post (history) is needed
-- /category/ /author/ ... should be changeable!
Another vote for removing "category"!
It makes url consistency when posting:
Category url should be just:
Since this idea deals with several different topics, I have created a separate idea that focuses solely on the removal/disabling of the Category Base. You can vote on it here.
and i would like to have an option for different structure for archives, for pages ...
thomask is right. the category issue is just a symptom. it would be nice if we have control over other permalink structures such as archives and pages and authors.
I agree to remove "category" from url.
