More plugin hooks on the admin panel!
Many feature requests here in the ideas section are for admin panel improvements, but there is staunch resistance against "bloat" in this sensitive area. How about a compromise then: more plugin hooks!
It would sure beat having to hack the code every time you upgrade to a new version...
I've posted an idea which would include this idea and more in one go...
More plugin hooks can only be a good thing, but it'd be nice to see some specific examples of hooks you'd like.
The hooks I'd like to see center mostly around the Post/Edit process.
With a finer control over that page in particular, an administrator could allow the blog to become a town-hall bulletin board, with controls on how one is allowed to post, what they're allowed to edit, what they're allowed to upload, etc.
As an example of places where hooks could live: general_template.php's the_editor() function could have a filter on the toolbar div to allow access to the HTML/richedit switcher. Another hook there (or in edit-form-advanced.php) could set $media_buttons and the other parameters not now set when called.
There have been many hooks added over the 3 years.
