I'd like it if you could install one code base of wp and make mulitple blog w/o having to install over and over again.
The CMS TYPO3 is a good example of what I mean

What I think this means (or 'what I want') is to have a separate chronological list as a child of either a category or a page while retaining a single theme across the whole site.

For example suppose wordpress had 'wordpress.org/developer', 'wordpress.org/public_relations', and 'wordpress.org/user', each of which would seem to be separate blogs with their own categories, etc, but managed from a single wp-admin and consistent theme.

Alex, that's almost what I mean.
I mean that only the very core of WP is shared and the following items belong to the individual blogs:

    • theme
    • categories
    • and of course post and pages
This seperation would lessen the workload of updating WP if you're maintaining multiple blog. This goes for creating one too.

Isn't this what WordPress MU does?

I would very much like to have multiple blogpages as part of one WordPress install.

Why do most other blog softwares stick to what they started with; either they are one CMS for multi bloggers or one CMS for a singluar blogger. They don't try to be both, why is WP the only one to do this?

As one of the topics said, WPMU is mainly for admins intended to provide other people with possibility of opening their own blogs - much like wordpress.org.

But multiblogging some of us are looking for goes another way - ability to open OUR new blogs, e.g. specialize each one by a topic, and customize the layout accordingly. Something in line with Multiply plugin idea (check it and you'll know what I mean), but technically able to denote blog1.example.com or example.com/blog1.

I sort of agree with Mirta. For example, I'd like to have a separate area for searching, commenting, sorting and rating video clips without having two WP installs or using a plugin that hides categories; yet use the same theme and top-level navigation etc. site-wide. I know that the other fork of B2 had something like that enabled, but WP would probably handle it much, much better.
