Make the media uploader optional

I'm sorry to complain, but the new image uploader of 2.5 is driving me crazy. Me and my wife have our blogs hosted at Bluehost, both running WordPress. I updated mine to 2.5, but left hers running 2.3.

I now notice that it takes me a considerably greater amount of time to add images to a post, because of the mandatory usage of the Media Uploader. I personally thing the 2.3 upload form was not broken, so this fancy "fix" did not solve any problems to me -- quite the contrary.

I already mentioned how slower the whole experience is, but that's not all.

The idea of images now behaving like mini-posts is completely baffling to me, since it confuses my readers as they want to add comments that mostly nobody will ever see, and on top of that it messes up Polyglot.

What I'm doing now is uploading the pictures, inserting them into the entry, and deleting by hand all the cruft added by the uploader, so that it behaves like the simple-and-effective upload function of 2.3.

Meanwhile, my wife keeps happily blogging along, adding pictures easily, without even noticing how much I miss those days myself! :-)

Anyway, would it be very difficult to make the Media Uploader optional, so that a frustrated user like me could disable it without having to do a full downgrade to 2.3?

Images, or attachments, have been "mini-posts" for quite some time. This isn't something new to WordPress with 2.5. This has traditionally been called the attachment page.

What you should really be asking for, after reading your idea, is for the media uploader to work better.

Reverting back will be going in the wrong direction. WordPress has given us this feature because we, the users, have been asking for it for quite some time.

You're going to have to do a lot better to convince me that the media uploader needs to be optional.

You can use the regular html uploader instead of the flash one.
