The edit image dialog in the visual editor needs an overhaul.
Whether I'm in the Edit Image tab or the Advanced Settings tab the image size options are showing. Is this necessary? If the same options show regardless of what tab I'm in, shouldn't that option be somewhere outside of the tab? Plus I always see anything above 100% greyed out.
It seems like I should be able to re-select the image source size that I want but we don't have that option. We only have the option to set the img tag's height and width, or to manually type in the source image's url. For people not familiar with how HTML handles height and width on images this is very confusing.
I would really like to see the alt text get updated from whatever alt text is set in the media library.
As far as new features go, instead of CSS classes, I would like to see image style templates, where you can select a dropdown of image styles defined in the theme that would correspond to CSS classes which set a variety of styles like border styles, border-radius, box shadow, etc.
I would like to see the crop and resize tools available in this edit image dialog. A brand new image size could be created when the crop is made, and saved in the uploads folder, which then becomes the source for the current image. This new crop would not overwrite the default image sizes. Then if you want to re-crop, you can re-crop from the original image. Maybe the image size name would be custom-crop and each image would get to have just one custom crop, so you don't end up with hundreds of abandoned cropped images in the uploads folder.
Those are some of my ideas. What other ideas do you have for improving the edit image dialog?
